You need to boot your computer then look and see if there is a Recovery Partition on the hard drive. Click Start/My Computer and see if there is a Recovery Partition listed. Some times the partition might be hidden so check your owners manual and see what it says about recovery.
Have you tried doing a system restore to a restore point (date and time) before you started having problems? It's much better than System Recovery because you won't loose any data. Click Start/Program/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore.

Does the laptop have a restore function built in?
When you start it up do you see anything that indicates a restore program?

You need to do a new windows setup, erasing completely existing system. I do not know if you can do this from Vista upgrade. You may need to install from a bootable Windows setup disk first, and then install vista upgrade. Once you install the system you may need to download drivers. Here is Toshiba drivers page.

With no disk you cannot restore your computer to a factory settings, at least that your computer has a second disk with the restore settings installed on it (usually this disk is called restored)

Acer are cheap and they don't provide you with a factory restore disk. You need to make this factory disk yourself. I know how to do this, but it is to much for me to type and here is a really really good reference site for you to visit to get instruction to make your own factory restore disk. After making that restore disc, pop the disk into your laptop and turn of your laptop and restart and the factory restore program should start, if it should not start then go into your bios menu and have it boot from your Dvd-Rom and save, after full restoration, make sure you turn your boot priority back to where your Os is being installed, exm hard drive.
