Question about Kenmore 96412 / 96414 / 96419 Electric Kitchen Range
We have a smooth top range. i cannot get any technical support from sears regarding the smoothtop. all they want to do is order service. here is my problem. when we are boiling water or cooking it seems that the contents are slow to heat and then all of a sudden everthing gets hot. very hard to control the heat. is this the way they are supposed to work. they may look sexy but we would rather have our old coil range back. same behaviour on all burners. when boiling water it seems the water does not simmer and then all of a sudden starts to boil. when we have soup on a low simmer it starts boiling after a while. are there any tests i can do short of a service call and someone telling me there is no problem when they come out. no sales people at sears can give me an answer. should these smooth tops behave like electric coil ranges. if not, what are the differences. thankss in advance.
Smooth tops take a little geting used to than a coil top range....Make sure you have good flat cookware. NO GLASS COOKWARE. (ie vision ware.) Once the burner is set to high, it has to heat the glass, then the pot, so it does take about 2 min loger to boil, If you want to simmer, then i suggest bringing the item to a rapid boil, and then cutting back the heat to below the 1 on the range. and adjusting from there. All smooth top glass ranges do work in this manner. Most people can adjust to the switch, but not everyone can. there really is no problem with your range. BTW i work at sears, and i am surprised that no one helped you.
