If you have check the power cord & foot pedal to make sure they are plugged in the machine correctly
then I suggest taking the machine to a sewing machine repair shop to be
checked

SOURCE: Needle moves up and & down and sews for a few

If you look at the website, www.sewvacdoctor.com and you can see, they say it may be your foot pedal or transducer(speed control inside the machine) I would call Singer and see if it is still under warranty, hopefully it is. If it is the foot controller, that is not too expensive, I don't know about the transducer. But, call Singer at -800-4singer and tell them what is happening. Good luck

Sewing machine not running fast enough

If it's an older mechanical machine, it may be seizing due to old oil that has dried and preventing the parts from moving efficiently. If this is the case, refrain from further use until it has been addressed or the motor could be damaged.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Some machines have a dual speed setting. Check that your machine has not been set to half speed. Older mechanical machines may have a speed control on the foot control. Look on the underside for a "+" & "-" that will regulate the speed.

try changing the needle
rethread the machine top & bobbin

Pfaff select 1540 bobbin thread jam

if there is a thread in the hook area try taking a pair of needle nose
pliers to try & get the thread out, if that doesn't work then you might
think about taking the machine to a sewing machine shop to have the
machine checked since the needle will not go up & down & handwheel
won't move

My feed dogs are raised but the machine will not feed the fabric fast enough even set at 5

Obvious things first:

is the pressure foot lowered to hold the fabric down?
Are the feed dogs clean and not blocked up with lint?
What stitch length have you set the machine to (if this is what you mean by "5" then that's not it obviously)
Is the machine in a buttonholing sequence or something similar?
Are the feed dogs moving at all in the stitching sequence? Raise the pressure foot and without fabric or thread manually turn the flywheel towards you and watch them moving. Are they coming up above the surface of the needle plate during their sequence.

If they are not moving at all, good chance a gear in the lower shaft has failed.
If they are moving but not coming up above the needle plate enough to move the fabric backwards, then they need adjusting to the correct level.

My needle keeps breaking. So I unthreaded everything and cleaned the bobbin area. Per the manual i rethreaded everything but when i get to the part of turning the balance when toward me until the needle...

check to make sure the needle is inserted correctly--flat side to the back of the machine
that the needle is inserted all the way up in the needle shaft

check the needle clamp screw to make sure it's not loose

is the needle correct for the fabric that's being sewn

check to make sure the needle is not hitting the needle plate- if it's hitting the needle plate or the bobbin case then it's possible the machine is out of time & would have to be serviced because they have the proper tools to time it

My dad bought a new rex usa model #rx-1804 and the arm does not move up and down put a very small amount. its to low and i cannot put a needle in. how do i fix it? do you know of a book i can buy so...

I'm assuming that your talking about the needle bar (where you put the needle in) that doesn't go up high enough. The needle bar has a screw that secures it in place, and if you loosen it you will be able to slide up the needle bar high enough to be able to put your needle in. Now this bar does have a set height that it's suppose to be, so you'll have to set the timing of the needle bar when you loosen the screw. Loosen the screw, move the needle bar up enough to so you can put a needle in. Set it on wide zig zag. When the needle is on the up stroke the hook tip should pass behind the needle just above the eye of the needle. The hook is the piece the the bobbin case mounts on. If the hook tip faces to the right you have to time it with the needle on the right swing of the widest zig zag. If the hook faces to the left, just the opposite.
