My New Gateway isn't recognizing the cd/dvd drive :(

Hi,
I have a Brand New Gateway t-6330u Notebook with Vista 32 bit and I loaded a few programs onto my new computer and then all of a sudden it didn't recognize the dvd/cd-rom drive anymore. I went to the control panel then to the device manager and under the dvd/cd-rom drives it has a yellow triangle exclamation point with Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563A ATA Device. I click it and it says- this device cannot start (code 10). It says to check for solutions, but there isn't any. I click on the driver tab and update driver doesn't work, disable and abling the device doesn't work. I tried uninstall the driver, but then it eliminated it all together, which was scary. So I left the drive open, restarted the computer and it loaded itself back on, but with the same error code 10. Please help!! I really need this drive to work!! This is my 3rd computer this year, I'm just having no luck :(
Thank you for your help and God bless,
Shelly

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

To your concern, two possible ways to correct:

  • download and merge cdgon.reg and EditReg from here. It is a zipped file, extract and read instruction in the READ ME FIRST.txt; or
  • manually edit the registry. Open "Regedit", go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and delete the entries "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters"; Exit and reboot.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

sorry the site cut off the last part, here it is again

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

or if cut, the last part

You need to install windows 7 (32 bit) not 64. To change to 64 you have to make internal changes and updates to your notebook. Your notebook is set up for 32 bit systems.

My T-6330u no longer recognizes my hard drive I bought a new hard drive but the end result is the same is this something to do with the motherboard?

This can be from a number of things.
1rst, is the drive showing as disabled in your bios?
If not, with laptop powered off, then try unplugging the dc adapter and removing the battery. remove the hard drive. Let the computer sit for a few minutes.replace the battery but do not plug the dc jack back in. boot the computer without the hard drive and let it go to the point of failing boot with no hard drive.
Power off. hold down the power button and let it cycle power (goes on then off)
remove battery and replace hard drive. try to boot and see if this will allow your hard drive to recognize.
If this doesnt work then repost and can go from there

Norton 360 install has replaced/overridden DVD drive

Hi, I can certainly understand how you feel and hope I can help.

error 19 isnt necesarily a corrupt driver, it can be 2 drivers trying to use the same resource (as in norton's backup drive and your cd drive, for example)

Try this - Click the start button, right click on "Computer", select "Properties", then click "Device Manager" in the upper left hand corner.

Open the bit that says "CD/DVD Drives" and try right clicking on the drives there and selecting "Update Driver Software". This will probably do nothing. Don't worry, I didnt really expect it to. Now right click on the drives, and select "Delete" and then reboot. This will reset the drivers for ya.

This fix usually DOES work. Most of the time. If it doesnt work, try the ones below.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or not recognized by Windows or other programs, so you cannot play or access a CD or DVD. This issue might have occurred after you installed, uninstalled, or updated a program or Windows Vista.

This issue may have occurred after one of the following situations:
  • You upgrade a computer to Windows Vista or install Windows Vista Service Pack 1.
  • You install or uninstall CD or DVD recording programs.
  • You uninstall Microsoft Digital Image.
You may see one of the following error messages:
  • One of the following error messages appears when you view the CD drive or the DVD drive in Device Manager.

Error message 1 The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31). Error message 2 A driver for this device was not required, and has been disabled (Code 32 or Code 31). Error message 3 Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)
  • An "error code 39" error message.
  • A message that resembles the following appears in the notification area: Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)
  • you can find this information and more at this site..

  1. ensure drive is recognized by the BIOS (It should be ID'd by model in BIOS
  2. If drive is seen normally in bios, then try the fixit utility in this link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
  3. See if you can boot to the drive using your Vista DVD and run a repair my computer from DVD
  4. If none of the above works, replace the drive. If system will boot to DVD, then reinstall Vista

Hi there.

It sounds like your Class Filter Drivers are missing/corrupt.

I would download and update your BIOS (this should include the class filter drivers), update your DVD drive firmware, and also the WinDVD update for Windows Vista. You can get these from the Toshiba website, here:
http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=1598559&rpn=PSAD0U&modelFilter=A135-S4467&selCategory=3&selFamily=1073768663

The 3 downloads I just mentioned, are the first 3 on the list.

Let me know how you get on.

I purchased a Gateway LX-6200 with Vista Premium 64-bit tonight and my problem is that it won't recognize my I/O Magic 250GB "Gigibank" external hard drive. It worked earlier this evening when I loaded all...

Did you load software ? You have a 64 bit Operating System (OS) and MANY companies don't make 64bit software. 95% of PCs are 32 bit. This is same problem other external drive makers are having, Vista 64 bit was sold as "typical" PC when it's for very powerful users. Many "drivers" that talk to the equipment must be written for 64bit software. Check the companie's site to see if it's VISTA 64 bit compatible. Bet it's not ! !

My New Gateway isn't recognizing the cd/dvd drive :(

PLEASE read all the way through before doing any of the options. Thanks,

Sounds like something in the system files/registry may have gotten corrupt. Perhaps one of the programs you installed caused an issue. Whatever the case, if it's brand new you should have a year,or at least minimum of 60 or 90 days of free tech support from Gateway, this would probably be the most time efficient method.

Just to know in advance: Depending on the computer, if it didn't come with a set of back up disks for the Vista program, ( program file are securely saved/stored on the Hard Drive ) Gateway will recommend you create a back-up set if it didn't come with one. Advisable to do this anyway in case of a complete Hard Drive failure.. They should be able to walk you through the procedure to get it back online.

If calling Gateway tech support isn't an option, then you may be able to try a SYSTEM RECOVERY to a time before the problem developed, I'm not sure if that will work or not, won't hurt anything to try. If that doesn't work, the system may be able to reinstall the files for the dvd/cd rom drive.

To find where to see if this is an option that can be done, ( it will say something like Application Recovery or Gateway Application Recovery ),and to find the SYSTEM RESTORE, and to find the location of where to create the back -up disks if that is a necessary option, and to find how to do any of the other options mentioned, DO THIS---> From your start menu open ALL PROGRAMS > open PC HELP & TOOLS > In that list you should see all of the options mentioned here.

The other option is to uninstall, or rather do a complete system recovery. Just make sure you have a back-up of everything you want to keep that you have saved on it because it will delete everything. If you have the disks for the Vista program great, if not and the program is on the hard drive, make a set of back-up disks for the vista program itself. This is recommended always just in case of a complete Hard drive failure.

If you can't call Gateway for tech support,TRY THIS ONE FIRST, you should be able to go to the Gateway website and find the download for the driver for your dvd/cd rom, try downloading it and installing it before you do any of the other options. A complete System Recovery is a big pain and time consuming, plus you will have to get/borrow from a friend a cd/dvd writer to back up everything before you start a recovery.
