Sony Cybershot Lens Stuck inside!!!

My sony Cybershot camera has the Lens stuck inside. I dropped it the other day. And apparently the lens hit the table first. Now the black shutter doors open, but the lens goes on a 20 second struggle to come out. It tries, but it cant. Then I get the message on the LCD screen that says " turn the power off and on again". If i turn on the camera on the viewing feature i can see all the pictures and everything works just fine. But the lens is ruining everything. Am i doomed? Please HELP!!! I have a Sony Cybershot DSC W90 with the same problem. My battery ran out whilst the lens was open. I recharged the battery and re-inserted it, but now when I switch the camera on, the lens opens and closes a few times and then remains closed. I get the error message "turn the power off and on again".

I have the exact same problem with my Cyber-shot; the lens is stuck inside. After trying everything to loosen it (like wedging a razor knife between the sections, even dropping it or banging it against a book, etc) non of which I recommend, I finally got it open by PUSHING on the black telescoping section surrounding the lens itself. For some reason, this worked!

In this case i think there is a physical damage caused to the lense so the best thing to do at this point of time would be to call Sony and try to get the camera replaced...... PH: 800-222-7669

Sony cybershot camera fell and lens is stuck

The lens may be out of position, or there could be dirt/dust in the lens mechanism. You could try some of the following suggestions:

1: Switch on the camera while you hold the shutter button and connect it to the AC adapter or to the USB cable at the same time.
2: Now by default the lens should get properly aligned if not try to twist them slightly by holding down the camera lens with soft hands.
3: Just push and pull the lens slightly as it extends automatically.
4: Now when the lens is in the hard surface power on your camera.
5: Try to hit the camera softly beside the lens which might solve the issue.

Sony cybershot dsc w80 wont turn on or retract lens. My camera suddenly stopped working one day, do not recall dropping it, etc. My mother has the same camera and I tried her battery and it still doesnt...

Hello,

From your description, I would say something is stuck inside the lens mechanism of your camera. It could be a grain of sand or any small particle like a piece of fabric from a camera bag.

Hold you camera lens facing the ground and gently - moderately tap it repeatedly. You can also try spraying a compressed air into it.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Lens Stuck

Same problem guys!!! LENS HAD GOT STUCK - ABOUT ONE THIRD OUT after a knock. After lots of playing, and tapping and batteries in and out tried the whole twisting and pulling thing whilst turning off and on.

After a few minutes it came free and whole lens popped out. I then had to twist the outer part of the lens to straighten that up and allow it to fully retract. Works a treat now!

PS Tried the Sony online chat support - useless!!!!
