Clear e 5 on mp160

1) With the printer powered off but connected to a power source, press the Power button while pressing and holding the Stop/ Reset button.
2) When the Power LED is lit, press the Stop/Reset button two times while pressing and holding the Power button.
3) When releasing the Power button and the Stop / Reset button (regardless of order), the printer will move into a service mode. (Waiting for menu selection)
4) When the LED lights in green, press the Stop/Reset button 4 times.

The above will get you to Service Mode (and clear the Waste Ink Counter if you wish) and is supposed to work for MP160 also.
Caution if your waste ink pad is full you could overflow if ignored.

Some of the new carts reportedly have fuses which blow if the ink gets too low, denying any further refilling.

To use refills, you will probably have to turn off your Status Monitor.
Go to your printer's Maintenance section.

Canon mp760 printer overflow full, have parts and service manual. Need code to get going again

there is no need to change the ink absorbing sponges at all ,,as i hve solved this problem myself for many of my clients i m sure that it will work for u too if followed properly step by step:

It could be due to "waste tank full" alarm; you may need to reset the waste tank counter.
reset sequence for a MP760 printer that works for F30 and F50 as well. Try:
Resetting the Waste Ink Volume Counter
1) Enter SERVICE MODE.---
By pressing Menu-Copy-#
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the [OK] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

ur printer absorber will reset and will work properly and u will be back to work.try doing it one more time if u miss something .
please take a moment to rate the solution after u get ur problem solved

The waste ink tank is full. Where is it located?

This is something that needs to be done by a service department..... however it may not be full. Cannon has a 3 year clock on these so you may be able to clear the error code and continue printing.

Waste Error Reset
1: Power off printer
2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once.
3: Hold POWER and release RESUME
4: Press RESUME twice
5: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange.
6: Press Power to set data

Tank full.

Before doing this make sure that the waste pad inside your printer was drain and clean or must replace first because if not, overflow will occur. This is why it happen to your printer, its a protection.
steps:
1. Turn off the printer (don't unplug)
2. Hold Resume button and press the power button and hold (don't release the buttons)
3. While holding the power button release the resume button.(Don't release the power button)
4. Now press the resume button twice and then release both the power and resume buttons to get in the service mode.
5. When the LED light is green, press the resume button 4 times. ( When the resume button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in orange and green starting with orange.
6. Press the power button to perform reset.
7. Press the power button to exit service mode.Good luck and God Bless!!

Status Monitor informs of Ink levels requiring me to press resume button during and after each print job.

What it means is the tank to collect waste ink (from cleaning etc) is full.
Canon suggest you return ther printer for replacement of the absorbant mat, suggest you scour the web for DIY cures.
