Question about Digidesign Mbox External Sound System

Loud static randomly during playback?!

I am using using Pro-tools LE 7.1 on a Mac intel OSX 10.4. with an Mbox.
when I am editing or playing something back, randomly, this white noise static will just burst out of no where. it is really loud. i cannot hear the music after that. sometimes it kinda sounds like it is distorting the exsisting sound. I have to quit and then restart the application. no data gets lost and nothing is wrong with the file after. it just hurts really bad and is happening now every 15 minutes.

I have tried using different usb cables.

Thank you

I have the same problem with mbox 2 mini. The only thing I have been able to do is disconnect the usb (killing the power to the box) to reset the box. This can sometimes cause the computer to crash. I wish I could find a solution.

Have the same problem: very loud distortion. I know is related to the mbox because lately I have been using it with DP6, If I use just the Output of the computer it works fine. But then with the MBox start immediately the noise.

I have had this problem happen several times.

First off, if you haven't already done so, then you need to go to DigiDesign's help site and there is a troubleshooting post from awhile back that tells you all sorts of things to do to make sure your system is in top shape. This will include your Sleep and Color settings, Disk Permissions, Preferences and more. Once all that has been done I can almost guarantee you that noise won't happen again unless you have some damage to your hardware.

I will note that most people I know who have regular troubles with Pro Tools have NOT followed the directions from DigiDesign. Pro Tools is a very finicky program and if you cut corners it will cost you a lot of time and energy.

Anytime I install anything I instantly repair my disk permissions and delete preferences for Digidesign. But, I generally avoid ANY updates or unnecessary installs as I've finally got my machine running properly.

Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me with any questions and I can try to help!

Mbox USB Driver Update v.1.0.1 NON-PUBLIC

NON-PUBLIC www.digidesign.com
along with the CollabInfoFix, PT LE 5.2.1 link, and the previously posted
Firmware rev 18 update...

Digidesign Mbox USB Driver Update v.1.0.1

" What Fixed with Digidesign USB Driver v1.0.1 "

The USB Driver Update fixes a problem that could result in corrupted audio
recordings. Typically, the recorded audio would contain clicks and pops after
long periods of recording time. Digidesign recommends that all Mbox users
replace their "Digidesign USB Driver" version 1.0 (located in the System Folder
/Extensions Folder) with this version 1.0.1 driver.

Who Should Use this Update?

All Mbox Users with either Pro Tools LE (Mac) v.5.2 that shipped with Mbox, or
the 5.2.1 web update for Mbox users from DigiProNet

To Download Digidesign USB Driver v1.0.1:

Go to the Support/Downloads/Mbox section of the Digidesign website: digidesign.com

MBox 1 Compatibility with new Macbook Pro Unibody and OSX 10.5.6?

unfortunately any pro tools application below version 7.4.2 is not compatible with leopard and I don't think you can use mbox 1 with the universal mac I may be wrong but I wanna say I tried a while back and even garageband wouldn't find it anymore but you can check for sure by going to the applications folder then open the utilities folder in there is an application called "Audio Midi Setup" and you can select the mbox in there if you see it but if not there is no patch or driver that I know of to get it working unless you upgrade pro tools which if you do upgrade I suggest getting mbox 2 and getting LE with it

Macbook pro does not detect digi 002 rack

yeah i have an intel imac and had the same problem. I upgraded to pt le 7.4 and now pro tools recognizes the 002 rack and it works fine, but still the core audio manager does not recognize the hardware. It says in "use" when I first turn on the 002 rack, then it says not connected after about 20 seconds. I don't think this really matters though because I have beeen able to do everything fine without having the core audio managr recognizing the 002 rack. I hope that helps

PROBLEM KEEPIN MBOX 2 CONNECTION TO MAC LAPTOP

I have the same problem. Usually it will work when I reboot the computer. The trick is once you get the mbox working with the phantom power on, is to not turn off the phantom power during your session; the duration in which you use the mbox at that given time before shutting it down. You can switch the phantom off and it won't shut off, but if you press it back on, it may and for me more than half of the time it does shut off. I have a new problem with my mbox. I can't hear play back, even though I can hear sound from either input. Any suggestions?
