Problem for LG RH299 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo
LG RH299H HDD/DVD does not read purchased DVD's
My LG R299H HDD/DVD recorder initially read any CD or DVD. Now it will not read any DVD or some CD that were purchased. When I insert the media it attempts to read but then opens the tray and displaya message that the media cannot be read. Some CD's are read and played without any problems. I suspect some setting is incorrect.

- Have an RC299, was playing disks on region free fine for 1 year. Then stopped suddenly with Disc error on two of 4 new legitimate movies purchased. Still plays local region but wont play out of region disks. DVD shows as region 0 and congrats on region free. Does it only work once ?? if you change the dvd again or use another hack like chanfin Option 5 to FF it does not help and dvd's will not play. Sigh does this mean I ahve to purchase a new dvd player to play my movies- francined102Nov 25, 2008
- LG RC299 It used to play everything, now it only plays dvd disks that have been backed up but wont play original dvd. It should play region 4 but it now tells me "no disk" . I have removed region code with 0000000 but it made no difference.- GuestSolution #1

To unlock the region limitation of your machine:
(all the following is done on the remote)
Press <Home>
Go to the Easy Setup Menu
Go to <Setup>
"Hover" the cursor block over the Lock symbol (don't enter yet)
Enter 0000 on the remote
A Congratulations message comes up.
Press <Enter>
