LCD monitor repaired?

Same monitor and problem. Almost tossed in the garbage before finding this solution (and a couple similar).
None of the caps on my board show any visible signs of bulging.

Well, it's not always show visible signs of bulging, sometime it is do to leaked. To find any leaked you need a good ESR/Low Ohms Meter to testing it.

cbaysail03, May be time to inspect the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"inverter supply" of the 731b!! If you can solder $5 worth of new "filter capacitors" on the power supply printed circuit board, unit might be brought back to life for another 2- 4 years use. To find out what is involved, go visit YOUTUBE, do search using "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" . Lots of owners are learning to do the repair work to save them from buying new. Some fix old unit and also buy new, keeping old as spare unit or use for their kids pc! Have you connected 731b unit to a full size desktop pc with same results? 12fixlouie

Not switching on

Look for blown main AC fuse and bad caps first, similar to L1915S.

ViewSonic Optiquest Q19wb LCD Monitor goes blank after 2 secs. A couple of posts say replace the 1000uf 16v Cap, My problem is i can't find them on the pcb (where are they?)

sgcb1971, There are lots of pics on web for you to view and then you will know what to look for. Electrolytic filter capacitors are not to hard to spot on a "switch-mode-power-supply"/"ccfl inverter supply" combo board. Why don't you visit YOUTUBE for some video clips of "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" . Also try for more clues as to just what to look for. Ya know , you need a soldering iron to replace them if they are bad!!! It's not like changing batteries in a flashlight 12fixlouie

For a 3 years old monitor, first place to check will be bad caps in the power supply, open it up and post back so we can guide you further, see example of failed monitors due to bad caps:

Look at the power supply first for bad caps, the transistors for back light inverter may have been damaged also when the caps went out. See example of failed monitors due to bad caps:

My Dell 1905FP LCD monitor Power light blink on startup

This is a classic symptom of filter capacitor failure on the power supply board. The Dell 1905FP and 1907FP both use the same power supply and this type of failure is very common. You can repair the unit by replacing the filter capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a picture of the board with the problem capacitors circled and below is a link to a repair guide for this series monitor.

I hope this helps,

I have a westinghouse 19 with a broken backlight

There is a chip in your monitor that is burnt out. To replace it would cost you about $150.00. To remove it is even harder as it is in the inside mount to your screen. If you are able to remove your front screen and put it on a board you can use your tester to find the chip. It would be cheaper to buy yourself another monitor. As the hours it will take to do this are intense. If you don't have the time to do this all in a day don't do it, as your memory will run into problems trying to accomplish this over a period of time. Try craigslist. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks.

dreaded capacitor issue. benq's were famous for it. if you are handy with disassembly and careful you can take it apart and do it yourself. look for any capacitors with rounded tops. i fixed one ... the part is only two dollars or so but it's a good feeling to know you fixed it instead of tossing it.

Dell E173FPc 17" LCD Monitor Problem:

Although similar, this monitor and the associated repair is different than the "b" version. The link above is good to follow for finding out how to open your case but the actual repair is different. If you have minor soldering skills (really the de-soldering is the hard part) and can use a phillips screw driver you can make this repair.

I contacted Tom at a link I found on the "b" site and he sent me the typical components to fail for the "c" monitor. $20 and $1.35 for shipping. The site looks to be down now so I'm not sure if this is temporary or he's stopped selling parts. He is also willing to fix the board if you send it to him. Here's what you need to do:
Replace C922 and C923 with 1000uF 35V caps
Replace c924 and C925 with 470uF 25V caps
Re-solder L201 and L202 with fresh solder.

I did all of the above and the monitor works perfectly. When you take the monitor apart make sure you note where the blue and pink wires go (you'll know what I mean when you get to that stage). The connectors are identical and it would be easy to forget which way they were installed.
