Question about Kodak EasyShare DX6440 Digital Camera

10 Answers

My camera is having problems turning on and off.

I cannot think of anything i did to my camera to have caused it to stop working. I havent dropped it, gotten it wet, got sand or dirt in it or anything. The problem is that when i try to turn it on, it will either
1. Turn on for just a few seconds, and then turn off (the lens does not go in)
2. Not turn on at all
3. Do this funky thing where it turns on half way, all the way, turns off a tad bit, and just keeps messing around untill it freezes in the middle.

When it does turn on for a second, its not long enough to snap even one picture. So i try to turn it off. This is another problem. It will
1. Turn halfway off so the lens is half out, and gets stuck
2. Turn off all the way, but the tiny black cover over the lens only closes halfway
3.(with luck) turn all the way off.

It also wont connect with the computer to upload pictures unless i hold down the power button with great force.

A side note* I have charged the battery in full, and this did not solve the problem. I have run the battery empty and re-charged it, and still did not fix the problem.

my camera wont turn on at all i thought it was the batteries but its not cause i keep putting new ones in so what could be the problem? I have same problem ,the red light flashes and the lens wont open, please help.

The len cover might be the cause of the problem, check if theres any dirt in the side of the cover. Or remove the cover see if there dirt or something blocking the cover or just try clearing the way the lens cover opens and close.

Just tap the sides of the camera for few minutes in the camera ON position.it also happens if the lens is moved or any other part shaked from its orignal position due to any reason.so tapping it gently from all the sides many a times clears this problem.

I hope you have tried with fresh batteries.
You could first try updating the firmware and see if it fixes the problem.

Hopefully it should fix the problem, else go for the authorized service.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, let us try something basic; clean the battery terminals/contacts. It may be need to scrape them a bit to remove corrosion and residual/coating of the connectors. In some extreme cases, the connector may have to be bended a bit or strethced so to enable them to exert a bit more pressure to the contacts of the batteries.

Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

It sounds like the software of your camera is corrupted. You can update/re-flash the camera's firmware.
Try to turn on the camera without the memory card. Hold the power button for 10 seconds.

Nikon S3000 dosent turn on

Have you updated the firmware? According to Nikon, when the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL10 is inserted in the camera and charged, charging sometimes did not stop after the designated amount of time had passed. Usually, you'll receive the message "Battery Exhausted" if this is the problem... but you could also have a completely dead camera as well.

See Nikon's website, download updated firmware to your camera and install a NEW battery. http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16873

Cracked screen

Hi

The warranty covers manufacturing defects and such, camera stops working completely etc, cracked screen is not one of those things.

You must have dropped your purse or something must have pressed on the screen and caused it to crack.

I think they will charge you for a new screen.

Camera wont turn on.

This kind of problem is hard to understand just what the problem is. That is because many problems can cause such behavior.

Make sure that if this camera has a switch on the battery door or battery/memory card door, that it is not broken or has anything to do with the starting of the camera. One way to test this is to leave the door open, then try to start the camera. If nothing at all happens, then the switch should be okay.
I would like to know about the history of this camera. Has it ever been dropped, been exposed to water, or had an impact on the lens when it was extended. Any of these can lead to problems like what you have stated.
Dropping a camera can do internal damage, not only to the lens, but to the internal connections.
Water damage can cause unlimited kinds of errors and troubles which may be hard to define. An impact to the lens can damage the internal workings of the lens unit to the point that it can be jammed. The jamming will cause such actions as you mentioned. That is because the lens cannot move, cannot be detected as to position and may cause the camera to stop or shut down.

when digicams are dropped most problems occur because some cables or wiring connections got loose. try taking it to a camera specialist to have it checked because if you open it yourself it might cause more damage.

My camera is having problems turning on and off.

Hey Mimi_M,
I know you said you didn't damage the camera and it hasn't gotten wet or been exposed to sand or dirt, but the most common cause of these symptoms are that something is obstructing the movement of the lens such as sand or the lens mechanism is damaged. I would try blowing compressed air into the side of the lens in the hopes to dislodge anything that might be stuck in the lens. If this doesn't work I would have the camera looked at by an authorized repair technician such as bringing it to a Geek Squad® precinct in a Best Buy™ store and they can send it out to be seen by a technician. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan
