Theencryption key secures your data from unauthorized access.
The router's password is a Passphrase or the WEP or WPA orWPA2 encryption key.
The Passphrase generates the WEP or WPA or WPA2 encryptionkey and this is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router'swireless settings configured ie SSID, WPA or WPA2 encryption key and also thewireless cards in all the laptops and or computers needs to be configured withthese router's wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
To setup your Dynex router you can follow the below steps
Connect the router with a power cable and switch on the poser, reset the router with its reset button normally you can find the reset button on the rear side of the router for 30 seconds and then switch off and on the power
After reset conenct the router to any laptop or desktop with a cable and also connect the router to the modem or the internet service provider cable
after all connection lights will come on go to right hand side corner of the computer and check if the network connection is showing connected
Once you are connected with a wired connection open a page of internet explorer and type in router addess normally it will be http://192.168.0.1 and then type the username as "admin" and the password is blank so leave the password box as blank
You need to set it up as per your internet service provider if you do not have any fixed IP address provided by ISP then select dynamic IP address and then click on clone mac address after saving these settings on the router setup page you can check if you are able to access internet then you can do the wireless settings
Once the router setup page is open you can confugure the router easily without the CD setup.
The advantage is you do not have to run the setup CD and you can also do wirless settings for your wireless laptops or devices
Go to the wirless settings page and you can select the wireless on and off or you can setup a wireless security to avoide your router with unauthorized acess
I would recomend always keep the wireless network secured if you are using the router for a home or small office as there can be people who will be using your bandwidth for free without your permission
one more tip i would like to give whenever any kind of setup is required on the router do it by a wired connection only and not thought a wireless pc or laptop as it can disconnect you from the router in between of your setup
WEP is the kind of wireless security which is easy to setup and remember and most wireless cards of laptops and computers support it
Routers can only access so many adresses. Check the install disk and look at the router it may be a settings issue or too many devices.(not enogh info) You can link to your router by your computer and diagnose the problem.
He might have specified and configured your laptops IP to his Home IP.
This is easily fixed by: Open Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab > LAN Settings > check the Automatically detect settings
Also you might want to check: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections > Right Click on a Connection > Properties > Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) then make sure its set to Automatically obtain IP address.
*note* do this for your home one and delete your son-in-law's connection. If you don't know which is which just leave them and see what connect's then delete the others.
