I need to wire a silver salute mic to a cobra 142 gtl 5 pin what color wire goes towhat mic pin

dont go by colors.. go by what wires are on the switch and mic element.. mics can be rewired and no one told you the colors could have changed FYI..

Pin #1 ~ Audio
Pin #2 ~ Shield
Pin #3 ~ Receive
Pin #4 ~ Switch Wire
Pin #5 ~ Transmit

always go by connections not color of the wire. that way you learn and you can do any mic. to any radio.

Cobra 148 gtl-st wont transmit but receives great

Check first your microphone

• check if TX is engaging when PTT is pushed.

• check for continuity ( mic and cable )

If you have not done these steps,

try it first, or borrow other compatible mic for Cobra 148GTL

from your friends on air.

Cb is recieving but not trnsmiting

Ah! these and the cobra 2000 had the same board and same problems--

Some will have no transmit audio (check or sub to make sure microphone not the problem) and others no receive audio.

If circuit problem both are caused by a filter cap that opens.

Usually this occurs when radio has not been used for a long period of time.

If you have a schematic for the radio (mine are all out of reach) you will find in the audio circuit a cap (I think it is 220 uf at 10 volts) right near where the volume is controlled that is bad.

The no transmit audio problem is another cap in the mic circuit.

I hope this helps you as it is likely your problem--note if the audio output IC was bad no receive or transmit audio.

shoot me a question by using the make comment if you need further help.

Cant transmit

Hello Darren, Yes it sounds like the mic is wired bass ackwards,,! A cobra 25 mic wiring is
PIN #1- Shield or ground wire
PIN#2- Audio or Transmit modulation
PIN #3- Transmit or Dead Key
PIN #4- Receive Audio.
When your keying the mic, the RX wires are being connected to make the RX work,,,
*** Let me know how you get along with it. Either buy a new mic wired for your radio or you or someone comfortable with soldering needs to resolder the correct wires back on the mic plug,,,Like I said, let me know and have a great day,, Mechanic is back quiet!
