If the screen is completely black, do you feel static from the screen? If not then you probably lost your High voltage to light up the screen. If you do feel static, and in a darkened room can see a gray screen, then you have lost your video signal internally, and it could be anything from a video IC to the microcontroller chip which would be an expensive repair. Since you see some pixels in the middle of the screen when the TV is off, I'll assume the High voltage is good, and besides the video circuits, it's possible that if you had a defect in the vertical sweep circuits, it might kill the video as well. May want to get an estimate or if it's over 8 years old, replace it.

I had the same problem, sound but no picture. I remove the electrical plug from the wall for several days. I then played witth the on and off button. One day I listen to the sound and the picture came back. Maybe my praying because my money was low had something to do with it, but it is working with out the remote. Anyway , good luck.
