I just posted a problem and solution for this unit. In short the connection goes bad between the upper battery contacts and the metal spikes that go through the case and make contact with the main circuit board in the front half of the unit. I simply used a pocket flat screw driver to twist the battery spring so it would hopefully "file" into the nail head. If that doesn't fix it you may have to take the unit apart and bend the metal contact fingers up so that they make better contact with the "nails" from the back half of the case. I would also take a pocket knife and scrap the nails and the spring metal to improve the contact.

try leaving it plugged into wall power overnight to make sure it's not a low battery. Otherwise, if nothing changes when you plug it into the computer it sounds dead. Hope it is in warranty, otherwise I think Garmin will give you a trade in value towards a working unit or repair it at reduced cost. Call them at 1800-800-1020
The nuvi 200W is an older unit and it may be possible that the battery has run it's life out. The average life span of a GPS battery is 2-3 years and possibly a bit longer depending on different factors such as climatic conditions, amount of usage, etc.
harman kardon gps 500we will not turn on, I am not sure why, its was working fine the day before and the next day I try to turn it on and it would not, I try to reset the satnav, that did not work either, I took it home and try to charge it overnight, that did not help, I suspect the battery because while it did not come on it did not felt warm from charging it overnight, if is the battery where can I get a replacement. I have no warrenty because I brought it 2 years ago.
Hello Fixya, I did nothing to repair the problem. The battery ran down and the TomTom could do nothing but turn off. The next morning I took it out doors and it started receiving the signal and found its location. Has worked correctly all day today, We'll see. Thanks for your concern, it just seemed to correct itself. Hope so. Cyssie
I have the same problem. The unit works until I connect it to whatever computer via USB (Mac or PC). The screen blanks out as soon as I plug in the USB cable. I have to disconnect the device and only then I am able to turn it on again. That started after Firmware update from V 2.90 to 3.00 . I am not sure this is causing problem. What about the firmware versions of your devices ? Are they all on the latest ?
However, does anybody know if there is a way to go back to firmware version 2.9 if it is not possible anymore to connect the device to any computer (evtl. through putting data on the microSD card ?).
