Hi,

Before you encountered the problem,. have you installed any hardware/software? you need to make it sure that there is no other devices connected to the computer like any USB external devices. If so, disconnect them and try rebooting your computer. If still doesn't work, try to check your hard drive in the BIOS or you may need to reseat it.

Let me know what type of system you have.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

    Hi

It would be easier if you can provide me the Service tag or express code.

    Thanks

    Hi,

Service tag can be found underneath the laptop. It like a serial code with 5-7 characters.

    Hi,

Press F2 to go to system BIOS. When you are there, please check if the hard drive is detected under Primary Hardrive. If it says None then the hard drive is not detected. You may try reseating it.

You may follow the link below to reseat (unplug/replug) the hard drive. But you need to unplug the power adapter and take out the battery then press and hold the power button for 5 seconds without the battery and the power adapter.

    Randy,

Based on the information you told, since the hard drive is not detected after you reseat it in the BIOS then you might need to replace the hard drive because it is failing or could be damage. The reason why it's damage because it could be that the system was not properly shutdown.

I suggest to call your computer manufacturer and check if the system still under warranty to replace the hard drive free of charge.

    Keep me posted.

I entered my restore disk after receiving message on hard drive on the dimension 9150. Got message

Hmmm, what concerns me is that your system BIOS is not discovering any of your SATA Drives, That sounds like an Issue in your motherboard not your OS. I would go into your BIOS settings and look for a link that says reset bios to factory defaults, then try and boot again without the recovery disk. Please keep me posted on what happened if this does not we will trouble shoot more.

Clicking noise

the 'clicking' sound might be a defective hard drive, which also explains some of those other issues.seems that perhaps a local computer tech can easily identify that, and then you may need to do a hard drive recovery exercise to recover hard data.

You may have files that you want to keep that you saved on your hard drive, but if you haven't backed them up then you will have to lose them because the only thing you can do to fix this is use the factory recovery disk which will wipe your hard drive clean.Just put the disc into the disc tray and you should get an option to start the recovery disc when you turn on the computer, it will tell you to press a key to start it which might be f3 or something different, I'm am not sure what key but when you have done that you should be able to start the recovery and wipe the hard drive clean and it should solve your problem

When i start my computer it says press f1 to

This means your hard drive has either failed or is disconnected.

Given the age of the computer it's most likely the drive has failed.

Let me know if there is important data saved on the computer. Otherwise, replace the drive and re-install windows and it should work again.

Screen goes black after 30 mins of working.

There are a few things you need to check here.
1. It could be that your computer power management is set to turn your monitor and harddrive off after 30 to 45 min.

If the computer is however working for 30 to 45 min while you doing stuff and it shuts off, the there is an internal problem "Hardware"

I would suggest you check to see if the power management is set to turn off monitor 30 min and harddrive after 45 min. IF that is not so, then we go on to the next test.

It could possibly be your processor fan is not working so once your processor gets over heated it shuts off the computer.

Turn off the computer, remove the case "this is only if you know what you are doing" with the case off, power on the computer and see if the processor fan is working.

You can get back to me and I can walk you through it.

Hope thiss help.

I'm using windows xp home edition i got the virus

You had "Floppy disk seek failure" per your comment. Therefore this is not a problem with your hardisk. Your BIOS was configured boot up from Floppy that was why when you booted up it was looking for info from the Floppy, so if it could not find, it was sure to report to you. Just pop something out of your Floppy then you should be OK. Cheer.

Using Hibernate uses lots of disk space, be sure you got atleast 20GB of free disk space on your hardisk when using Hibernate, also use surface disk checking software to see if you got badsector on your disk.

Turning on my computer I get my acer screen that says "f2" set up and then it goes black.

Try pushing those reccomended F keys ... it could be a bad Hard drive or bad vedeo card... may also be a hard ware conflict.... check the acer website (on a friends computer) to see if there are any fix sugestions

If this helps please notify Fixya and email me.
