Question about Insignia IS-DVD1001 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

Isignia DVD RW suddenly lost color. I now only see B&W

I've tried chaning cables, adjustments, etc. But still no color. I have a VCR hooked to the TV also, and it produces a color picture. I switched the DVD and VCR locations on the TV, yet the DVD still produces only B&W.

After starting to play a DVD-R, a P-SCAN big display appeared in the screen and became double vision (2-half screen display.) I tried to reset it by holding the power button for 5 seconds, turning power off for 30 minutes and still the problem exists on different DVD format that I inserted. Do you have any idea to correct this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

  1. Check if the mute button on the cable box/TV/VCR is activated. If so, turn off the mute feature

There are facilities to CHOOSE the digital assignment. I've seen where extended power loss will randomly lose custom settings. Open the manual.

DVD/VCR hook up to HDTV. No audio on DVD or VCR, no video on VCR

When you use component audio, it may shut off the side a/v audio settings. Try restoring all defualts (any changes you have made will be lost by doing so) according to p. 32 of the manual:

Can't get cable remote to operate GE 19TVR62

I found these remotes control VCR's only when programmed into the DVD button. It even says on page one of the manual that the DVD button is for DVD's, TV/VCR's, VCR's, etc. I got code 607 to control my GE VCR (using the DVD button). If that doesn't work, try 572 647 563 609 644 645 or 531.

Hooking up a cd player

I'm assuming you mean a DVD player, not a CD player? 1. You can get an input splitter (basically an A/B switch for the cable), and connect to that, manually switching between the two sources. 2. You can replace the VCR and the DVD player with a combination DVD/VHS unit. Although it would seem logical, it is unlikely that you can hook the DVD player to the VCR, since the VCR will refuse to let the signal pass though it, as part of its MacroVision copy protection. (This is the same sytem that prevents you from recording DVDs onto VHS tapes.)
