Brand new Whirlpool Duet Sport gas dryer & burning plastic smell
I just bought a new gas dryer and the clothes smell like burnt plastic when they come out. The inside of the dryer smells like this even when not in use. I have used dryer sheets, cleaned the filter, and all vents and cannot get rid of this smell. Please help!

I would consult the place of purchase. If they do not stand behind the product, then get the manufacturers support #. They will stand behind their product, especially if it is a possible fire hazard. THe smell you are smelling could be anything, but without being there and taking off the cover and doing a visual check. it's hard to dianose. It is possible that something that is plastic has fallen out of a pocket and gotten inside the unit while it was drying clothes and fallen onto the igniter housing.

the odors are normal for some new refrigerators, its due to the type of plastic used, let it cool and put coffee inside both compartments or baking soda as these 2 items will remove odors, after the odors gone continue to keep a box of baking soda in each compartment to control all food or plastic odors, this should help remove your odor problem
A burnt plastic smell indicates a failed component. Start where the odor was the strongest and locate the failed part. The hard part is determining the reason for the failure as just replacing parts will not correct the problem. Look at the start relay on the compressor or the defrost components. Eric
This is a sign of a short and should be looked at immediately. A smell like that is a sign of something burning. I could be the start relay and start capacitor with overload. But I would not sleep with the possibility of a fire. I will look over your model and see if I can find what this could be, Sea Breeze
refrigerant gas can be harmful in high concentration but a regular home refrig does not have enough refrigerant to be dangerous unless directly inhaled at the leak ( it would disipate faster than it ould build up) plus refrigerant is odorless and colorless so you probably wouldnt even know if it was leaking.
Your odor is most likely from a missed food item still in the frig or something that altho cleaned up left an odor behind. the most common culprit is citrus fruits. when they go bad they will leave a gaseous smell behind.
thanks for using FixYa hope that answers your question. Peyton
Not sure if this is a solution to the issues we are experiencing. However, I called Electrolux (877-435-3287)
and spoke to a customer service rep (Peggy).
After I provided the information she stated that this is a
known issue and Electrolux has a fix in place. She is sending new parts out to me today and I will have to call
Electrolux back when I receive the parts to have a technician install the
parts. The parts they are sending are, A
Mister Exhaust System and a new Air Duct.
In addition, they are issuing me a check for $100.00 for the
damaged clothes (100 wont cover it, but I thought it was a nice gesture, maybe
you could get more).
