Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer

Neptune Dryer I shut the door, pressed start and the dryer started for a second and stopped. Now the display is reading "8.8." This happened a long time ago and it eventually just reset because it started working. Now it won't reset. Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem. What can we do?

  • Anonymous Jul 01, 2008

I push start and the dryer just reads 8.8. I wait and it will start on its own, takes anywhere from 5 minutes to 12 hours. Tried unplugging it hitting start again but still just reads 8.8.

My maytag neptune dryer quit heating, after my wife changed the temp setting on the console from regular, to extra low drying temperature. The heating element reads 10.5 ohms. The thermal cutoff reads 0.02 ohms. The hi-limit thermo reads 0.02 ohms. The power coming into the dryer is 240 volts. What can I check or need to replace.

One of two things... 1) Replace the start switch! (thats the most common problem) 2)next to the start switch is a relay with four wires going to it(behind panel). replace only if start switch doesnt work AS THEY ARE EXPENSIVE!!!!! GOODLUCK!

Start button will click but won't start

Hello. Your model dryer has a service flash on the lower door strike/catch concerning not staying closed or not closing properly. If the door is allowed to open too much, the door switch will not be closed and the dryer won't run. The part number for the new kit is 279570 and it includes 2 door strikes and several catches. You choose the ones you need. However, if the door *is* closing properly, you can put the unit in diagnostic mode(door closed, all indicators off) by pressing/holding any button *except* stop for 2 seconds, then releasing, press/hold 2 sec, release, press/hold 2 seconds, release-- all the indicator lights will light for 5 seconds, and an 8 88 will be shown in the display. If there are *no* active fault codes, the indicators will momentarily turn off and then stay on with the 8 88 displayed. If there is an active fault code, it will be flashing in the display. (ex. would be an "F" and "xx" where "xx" would be a number.) If you press the same button you originally pressed once, then again, then again, the most recent code will be displayed, then the next, and so on up to 4 stored codes. To turn off diagnostic mode, just press stop. I hope this helps you!

Bosch dryer beeps

Two Beeps on my Bosch WTE84100au Condensing Dryer means a thermal overload but also means one of the thermal sensors is faulty .... as if it is always on.
Open the door, pull out the lint catcher and clean around the silver probe (it's like a shiny 1/8" nail sticking into the cavity below the lint catcher). If it still doesn't work (and still 2 beeps), just flick it lightly a couple of times. If it still doesn't work, flick again from the other direction.

I have a maytag neptune model mdg5500aww gas dryer. the light comes on but it wii not let me program it to start or stop what could be wrong? is there a way to troubleshoot

1) The dryer will not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.
Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.
2) Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.
it is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.
3) Timer may be defective

Neptune mdg3000aww starts heating and runs fine but stops heating shortly after start up can restart heater starts again and shuts down

If the machine keeps running but just not heating you have a thermostat issue. It could be the operating therm. or the high temp limit therm malfunctioning, shutting off the element.

If the machine stops running completely, check the door switch.
