If you have another computer run it as a slave drive then copy and paste the info to a flash drive, Hard drive...etc. Hard drives fail, always make regular backups.

My first solution is to plug your Hard Drive (HDD) into another computer. An external adapter would work fine. It most likely won't work, so you should try to find a Data Doctor - make sure you try the demo to make sure it works before you buy anything. You might even get lucky and find a free one. Recover the files onto a different HDD, and congratulations!

If you don't have the necessary materials for the above, you can also look at a HDD recovery service (Click the link). Although you will find that they charge more money, they are most likely more likely to find your files then commercial "do-it-yourself" software (as mentioned in the first solution).

Good luck!

All you should have to do is copy your files from their present folder on your computer to the Maxtor drive; you can find the drive location by clicking on the My Computer icon; or you can drag the files from their present position to the Maxtor.

SOURCE: Maxtor Basics portable 320gb Mac to pc compatability problems

Hi Tys,

I had a similar issue with my Maxtor Basics portable 500GB drive. I hadn't formatted mine yet, but had heard there were issues, so decided to find out before I start. I even saw your post here looking for an answer. Finally, one of my friends told me the following solution, which worked fine for me:

Don't format the drive as any of the Mac OS Extended options, simply reformat it as MS-DOS (it should be one of the options in Disk Utilities when you choose Erase and go to the Volume Format dropdown list).

Your Mac should be able to recognise and use the drive in this format and it works for PCs. Transferring files between the two shouldn't be a problem.

A thing to note, though, is that these Maxtor drives apparently come ready-formatted as MS-DOS (mine did). But while my Mac recognised the drive, I couldn't copy files on to it. If this happens, erase this MS-DOS formatting with... MS-DOS. Don't ask me why this works, I'm not a Mac Genius, but now my Maxtor is trouble-free and can transfer files from PC to Mac and back again.

Hope this works out for ya!

K

Maxtor External drive is "clicking"

No, the defect is in the actual hard disk inside your unit - it's the clicking of death.
There is nothing left to do, the unit is unfixable. Just get a new one.

Hello

It is going to be out within no time. If the bios still detects it, retrive the data from it to an other drive as fast as possible. Otherwis you will lost all data. Screech sound is due to its takeup record tip touches the media by anyway. The disc may have got a stron hit, shock etc.OK.

try to error checking disc. connect your usb drive to computer then right click, open the properties. there will be tab for 'tool', click it. there is option for error checking, click 'check now'. wait till finished recovery then open the drive again. if the data still missing maybe there will be hardware problem or it can be a virus too. hope this useful, regard riyan.

Corrupt MYOB data file

Our MYOB 14 .dat file is crashing. We suspect a corrupt entry in the database. The file will open but as soon as we trying to do anything the program closes and produces the following error: MYOB must terminate. Termination Code 1284 Important Details: Error -3000 in DMGTEKey (5037:7000:69) Seems to be the same error every time. We have tried running MYOB's Verify and Optimise tools with no luck. Each time either tool is run the program crashes and displays the error: An error occurred while attempting to compact the database. DM Error = (-3000-5049-7000-158) Restoring from a backup is not an option as last backup was 3 months ago. So looking for solutions to fix the current file please. Will not be satisfied if the solution is to take it to MYOB. Need someone who can actually dig around inside the file and correct the errors??

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working. There is a chance that you can recover data using a USB to IDE or SATA Adapter Cable to recover your data they cost about $30 if you cant get hard drive to power with adapter chances are it has crashed there are places that can get data off hard drive but they are very pricey hope this helps.

I need to know the power rating for a Maxtor 160GB external Hard Drive for use with a Yamaha PSRs-900 keyboard. Yamaha requires the rating to be not greater than 500-600mA

The Maxtor STM901601EHD301-RK is part of the Maxtor Basics Portable family.

It uses a 2.5 inch Internal harddrive inside. (2 and a half inches across the Width. Same size used for a laptop. Desktop's use 3.5)

It connects with a USB Style A male plug, via the USB cable.
It's has a 160GB storage capacity, has an 8MB Buffer, (Cache), and an External Data Transfer Rate of 60 MegaBytes per Second.

Other than that, I find no more information from Seagate, (Seagate bought out Maxtor, and has the data base for Maxtor products)

http://hddlist.com/maxtor/all/maxtor_basics_portable

What I do know in reference to your question.
I know that the USB 2.0 technology uses 5 Volts DC. The Positive pin on the USB plug will support up to 5 Volts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USB.svg

[Viewing a USB-A style plug, view it with the white plastic spacer at the bottom. Open part at top. The Positive pin is all the way to the right. The Negative pin all the way to the left. The Data + pin is on the left next to the Negative pin. The Data - pin is on the right, next to the Positive pin]

The Maximum current draw is 500 mA for a USB 2.0 port.
[ Current is rated in Amperes, or Amp's. You are looking at Millionths of an Amp.
Milliamp, or abbreviated as mA]

This would lead me to believe that the Maxtor Basics Portable external harddrives will not use more than 500 Milliamp's.

However I do not feel comfortable, telling you that it is okay to use your Maxtor STM901601EHD301-RK, on your Yamaha PSR2-900 keyboard. Would hate to be mistaken, and have you burn out the finals of your keyboard.

I do feel comfortable with the following suggestion.

What about transferring as much data as you can from the Maxtor Basics Portable, to a USB thumb drive? They have large thumb drives now, and hold a lot of data.

Most programs will fit on a large USB thumb drive.
Or am I missing the point somewhere?

Maxtor one touch III 300GB making clicking sound and wont mount

You aren't going to like my answer but unfortunately the truth stings sometimes. Your hard drive has failed. The actual hardware mechanisms have failed. The clicking noise you are describing is the death rattle and is usually "stiction". When you hear that sound you can pretty much hang it up. If this is critical data the first thing you want to do is turn it off and let a professional recover it. Each subsequent attempt at retrieving the data lessens the chance you will be able to. Many people try to skimp and take it to the cheapest place only to have them irrecoverably damage it. I have seen and used some radical recovery techniques over the years that may resuscitate it long enough for you to move the data over if you are willing to take the risks. Different techniques include: Freeze it then try and mount it, heat it with a hair dryer then try and mount it, drop it from 4 or 5 feet onto concrete (or bang it with a hammer) and then try and mount it. Steam up a closed door bathroom (works as a poor man's substitute to a clean room facility) and swap the platters with another working drive of same model.
I used to think all drive brands were pretty much equal in reliability, after having 5 Maxtor drives fail within 12 months of purchase in one of the departments at work, I began paying attention and I can say unequivocally in my personal experience this brand is completely unreliable. I administer over 125 machines and when one has drive failure in it, I already know before I pull the cover what kind of drive is going to be in there. I stopped buying this brand 3 years ago and will never buy them again, they are now owned by Seagate which oddly makes the best drives but the acquisition didn't seem to help Maxtor's failure rates. Lacie uses Maxtor in their products so I won't touch them either, had 3 separate Lacie Terabyte Externals fail within 12 months of purchase and when I opened them up, of course they were Maxtor.
I have high regards (and long term reliability) for the other manufacturers... Seagate, Western Digital, Hitachi, Fujitsu, IBM, etc...

In visual basic , how to store data or retrive data in or from a various tables

You must not be referencing the second table properly, the reason your first one works is because it is automatically referenced, what I mean is that Me.dataTable and dataTable will both work in the same scope.
