Turning the set off for 30 min did not solve the problem. The TV is connected to a Verizon FIOS box.

  • tjacks Nov 18, 2008

You were no help. All that had to be done was turn off both the TV and the Fios box for 10 seconds. I should not have to pay you. Thanks, Tom JAcks

I can better narrow down the problem with more information and I will get back to you as soon as possible with a solution once you answer my questions.

1. Can you get a picture from a dvd player or any other source?

2. New tv or had it for a while?

3. Has this setup worked before?

4. Has anything changed that could have caused this problem?

5. Anything else you would like to add?

This is an inernal problem that must be repaired by a service center. It is not a setting or set-up problem. It is a malfunction in one of the video processing circuits. Take it to a service center, unless you have very good electronics troubleshooting skills it will be next to impossible to repair. It also requires the use of a multimeter and maybe other specialized equipment to find this problem.

mostly it gets resetted and starts working if it is not an internal circuit board error/fault.

  • fixyy Nov 18, 2008

also when u ON the tv after unplugging it for sometime .at that time remove all the external connections connected at the back of the tv.just connect the tv to the main power outlet and ON the tv.

  • fixyy Nov 18, 2008

if resetting does not solves your problem then its a problem on the main board of the tv and needs reparing.

Hi Charlene,

please try with video input from any device, and i think you are using local antenna and it has gain problem or your tuner section of the tv is not working correctly.
if distroted pictures comes with video input signal it is video amp and processing unit problem.
you have to go for repair shop for fix that.

nuwan

Milky white picture

Could be a bad resistor on the screen amp board causing excessive brightness. this will wash out the picture and cause fine diagonal lines in the picture. Without seeing it this is only a guess.

According to Sharp it is a software problem. When TV came back on its own 10 mins later , screen had 2 large square staines superimposed in image (as if it was a burnt screen)...Engineer will be back next week...all quite sad really for a new TV.....will keep u posted

I get white dots upper left corner across the screen of set now I have a Sharp LC-37D40U LCD TV. Is it the pixels?

Hi Yabby,

If the dots are very narrow and jump about and you're receiving an analogue signal it could be teletext information. This is normal but is usually hidden off the top of the screen. You need to adjust the picture height to take them off the top.

Andy

Picture blanks out when there's a lot of white

First I have a question for for you...Does it happen on all channels???I'm asking you this because if its not on all channels the problem may not be the tv set but the station that you are watching. The reason is that they have to transmit signal 1Vpp max and if its higher for some reason it makes interference with sound which your tv see as a mistake and protect circuit turn off LCD inside. The other thing is that your lamp time is over and you have to replace it because it can't provide enough light anymore and when "white" scene is on the screen the high voltage unit try to heat gas in the lamp but can't and protect is working again

Many Sony LCD projection TV's have a problem with optic block failures and your description is exactly what happens. Picture starts turning yellow or green and blotches of yellow or green. Many Sony model have an extended manufacture warranty on these optic blocks and if you get me the model and serial # of your unit I can provide more info.
