Inoperative tail lights and instrument panel lights

I left my lights on yesterday after about 3 hours on the road.  1/2 an hour or so after I parked, I turned the lights off.  Three hours later when I got back in the car and turned the headlights back on, the instrument lights were out and I found out later that the tail lights were also out.  (Brake lights, headlights, reverse lights and turn signals still work).  I replaced the burnt 15 amp fuse and when I turned the lights back on it blew immediately.  So did a 20 amp fuse.  What is the next step in trouble shooting?  Please help.

Why aren't parking lights working?

Park lamp fuse 20amp located in the under hood fuse box .DRL control module
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) Control Module
Right of the steering column, behind the IP
Park, Sidemarker, Tail and License Lamps
Voltage is applied continuously to the PARK fuse to the headlamp and the instrument panel (IP) lamp dimmer switch through CKT 1340.
When the headlamp and the (IP) lamp dimmer switch is in the PARK or HEAD position, voltage is applied to CKT 9 thus activating the following lamps:
• The park lamps
• The side marker lamps
• The tail lamps
• The license lamps
The park/turn lamps are the only lamps that do not activate yet receive a current from CKT 9. The park/turn lamps do not activate because the voltage drop across the front side marker lamps is much higher than that across the turn lamp filaments Step

Tail lights inoperatrive

Could be one of three things;
1. Check the fuses in the fuse box.
2. If all fuses are OK, check the headlight switch.
3. If this car has 'delay turn off lights' feature, the lighting control module should be checked.

Left tail light out on 02 S10

I had this same symptom after I pulled a trailer that had light "issues". I tried wiggling the trailer light connector around until the trailer lights begin working. Next think I know they were not working again and now my left tail light was out. I thought it odd that is wasn't both lights out being on the same fuse, but checked wiring etc with no problems found. Mine turned out to be the "left tail light fuse" in the engine compartment fuse box. All of the parking and tail lights as independently fuse, You can tell which one it is by the guide on the fuse box lid. You will be looking for a 10 amp (red) fuse near the center of the fuse box.
