I have a dell vostro 1400 and a sony bravia tv. i can connect my laptop to my tv via vga cable, the problem is, the image doesnt show up properly.
the BOTTOM LEFT corner of my laptop screen is shown on the TOP RIGHT corner of my bravia tv. can anyone help me center my image? is it a resolution problem?
another small problem i have is, sometimes my laptop screen doesnt even show up. meaning only 50% of the time when i connect my laptop does it show up on my tv. im not even sure what i do when it DOES show up, because im still pretty new at this.
so if anyone can tell me how to connect my laptop to my tv and then explain how to center the image so it actually fits in the tv display, that would be MUCH appreciated.

Connect a VGA cable from the video port on your computer to the video port on the Sony Bravia. Boot up the Dell Inspirion and hold down the Fn key and press the function key that has the monitor symbol to divert the video data to the laptop video port. Power up the Bravia and Input button on the remote and select the PC input. You may need to set the laptop video resolution to 1024 x 768 (a higher video resolution may not display on the Bravia).
First let's be sure that video signal is coming out of your laptop. You did nor mention your laptop make/model and the connection cable type you are using between laptop and TV (VGA or HDMI or S-Video ). I'll assume it is a common VGA cable. Now, on every laptop the user can choose where the image is displayed: on the laptop only, on the external monitor/TV/projector or on both displays. This can be done by pressing the Fn key toghether with one of the F1 to F12 keys. Usualy it is Fn and F5, but other laptops use other key instead of F5. (please check the icons on your Fx keys, there must be something like two displays side by side). Each time the keys combination is pressed, the image switches between the 3 positions: only laptop, only external, or both displays.
Please let me know if it helped.
If you are using something else than VGA cable, please post again also mentioning what type of laptop you have.
To properly drive your TV set, your computer will have to be able to supply 1366 x 768 with a 60 Hz refresh rate.
A resolution of 1280 X 800 is high. LCD and Plasma sets are very critical for the maximum resolution. You can go lower but not higher. If a lower than native resolution is used there may be some aspect ratio distortion, and the picture quality will be degraded.
'Unsupported Signal' Error indicates that TV is accepting the signals for Video but not able to display because resolution doesn't matches. Else the message would be 'No Signal'. Follow the steps- NOTE- Make sure cable is 15 pin(at both ends) VGA cable, working fine between PC & Monitor. 1.The standard resolution of laptop(any) which would support is 1024*768. 2. Toggle the display output from Laptop Fn Keys depending on Laptop Brand. 3. Connect the cable after settings made. Also PC Settings will not be highlighted until connection is made.
