Open Question

Acer AL2016W blinks and I get black screen.

If I open an application that requires to go full screen, my lcd just blinks and i get a black screen. I have to turn off my monitor for like 10 minutes then reopen it in order for it to work again. It also happens if i switch it on/off/on. I have the proper driver installed. My resolution is set to 1680x1050 and I tried my monitor on another computer and it does the same thing. Thanks for your help.

SOURCE: Acer AL1916W monitor

The AL1916W's native resolution is 1440 x 900. See if your display settings can produce that resolution.

SOURCE: 'Input Format Not Supported' (please help me!)

OK try booting up in "Safe Mode" Press F8 just after Turn on, when and if ya boot into safe mode then adjust your Video settings to say 1024x768x32bit and then reboot, if all good then when you are at the desktop, then adjust the settings to whatever you require... maybe 1280x1024x32bit.. Ya all good. If this doesn't work.. try the Monitor on another PC.. see if it works... if it does.. then maybe ya Video card is going/gone "Toes up" if not, then ya got a fault in your monitor, usually some sort of Power Supply problem or the like.

SOURCE: monitor goes black

Sorry to have to tell you this, but this is common in LCD monitors. The reason that it is going black when it boots is for one of two reasons. You either have a bad power supply that powers your LCD or your LCD's backlight is blown. These can be repaired or you can purchase a new one. But if it goes black 9 times out of 10 is because the backlight is bad. These can be repaired!

My 30 inch Apple HD Cinema Display is stuttering/flickering upon opening video in full screen mode. Any idea on what the problem may be?

Check your connection to the screen. You may have a running application / process that requires a lot of processing power from your Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). If you wait until the application has completed its task, or quit the program, videos should run fine.

The screens starts to blink.

You're probably correct, but it could be the video card is set to the wrong resolution for the monitor. You should check that first. Monitors usually just pry apart, but the force required and the hideous cracking sounds deter many amateur would-be monitor techs.

When i turn on my dell vostro a860 the screen is black. When I plug in external monitor shows picture only on external monitor. No boot screen when turning on, nothing, only sound that windows loaded.

Since you say the screen was blinking when you opened or closed the lid: 1) It could be as simple as the cable that attaches on the back of the monitor is loose and needs to be reseated (pulled out and plugged back in) then secure it with tape where the connections meet. 2) It could be that the cable from the monitor that plugs into the motherboard needs to be reseated. You'll need to disassemble the monitor to remedy the 2 problems mentioned. And for problem 2 mentioned you'll need to remove the Keyboard and Palmrest.

Have you shined a flashlight on the black monitor screen to see if you can faintly see images on it. If so, then the problem is your LCD Inverter. You can purchase them for less than $10, but you'll have to disassemble the lcd screen. It sits at the bottom of the lcd screen just above the keyboard.

If you don't see anything when you shine the flashlight on the lcd screen, then your screen is out and will need to be replaced.

Acer monitor wont turn on or off?

Hello,

This type of problem is usually caused by a failure in the power supply board. Here is a link to a repair guide that shows how to dis-assemble and repair the power supply board. If you can do a little soldering then you can repair the monitor.

When i turn my monitor on the power light blinks fast, but the screen doesnt turn on for at least 10 to 15 minuites. The same thing happens when it goes to sleep and igot to wake it up,justa blinking light...

Does the same on another PC? Dying power supply due to bad caps, that will be the first thing to look for.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The problem maybe a backlight problem, it could be a faulty inverter board or faulty CCFL lamp.

Is ACER al2016W monitor dual-voltage?

Voltage Required AC 120/230 V

Yes Bob, you can use it in UK 240V and I believe no adjustments required since they are swithed mode power supplies.

Just to make sure have look at the data label at the back of the monitor it should say AC 120/230V. UK 240 is OK since there is a +/- 10% variation allowed on that.

I got the information out of the specifications on line, so you should be OK.
