My son's Phillips 42" Plasma TV has blue pixels showing up on the screen. What might caise this problem? Is it expensive to have it repaired? I don't have the model #.

Oops I posted my reply as a solution. I was trying to resond to your question avtech. As I wrote I do not have the model #. It's a flat screen Plasma and there are a bunch of blue pixels in the bottom corner (not sure which side) and some started showing up in the middle. They disappeared when he had it turned on tonight.

Thank you Avtech. We'll give it a try.

What model is it? Brand name? Is it a LCD or Plasma (flat panel) or Rear Projector LCD or DLP tv? How many blue pixels? Where are they?

Take off the back cover. You will find a small "Digital PCB", it will be hard for you to know the right one, but all you need to do is push in all of the connectors to make sure they are all tight. If this does not fix the tv you will need to replace the "Digital PCB". This will be the first part to try and replace. The second is the panel. This part is very costly. You would be better off buying a new tv. The real bad news is that I can not try to give you a place to buy parts with out the Make and Model.

What does it mean by dead cells?

I assume this is related to your LCD monitor.
I think you mean dead pixels. The LCD monitor has tiny pixel elements, one for each red, blue, green color and each one of these colored pixels are turnes on by a transistor. When a transistor fails then the colored pixel it controls does not light up. This is a dead pixel and it shows up as a tiny black dot.
If the screen displays a blue screen, a dead blue pixel will appear as a tiny black dot in the blue screen.
You normally would not notice a few dead pixels unless they are grouped together.

Blue pixels taking over

The light engine has dust in it.
There are a few good TV Techs that are now trying to clean the Light Engine rather than replace it at a $1500 cost. There is hope, but ask the Tech if he does this job first otherwise there is no hope unless you chump out the big bucks.

Blue spots on screen

This is what we call Stuck pixels and you can do a search on this online in google and there are fixes to this, I cannot provide the link because of the adverse effect it can do to your monitor if its done wrong but it works just seacr stuck pixels. You can also hook this up to your pc using the pc inut and run a program to unstick these pixels running a applet.

Pixel damage

Those small pixels are now damaged not much u can do with it. Some people say you can press on the screen the pixels affected and possiblilty get them to make contact and light back up ( I honestly highly doubt it) If u can live with and not very distracting keep watching it. But if you want to order a replacement, more than likely it will cost more than the TV did when u bought it. If its still under warranty get it replaced if possible.

Sharp Actius AL27 pixel problems

From what you described, it seems as though your LCD panel is going bad or the inverter board is bad. Does it change colors if you were to reposition (tilt) the LCD back and forth in either direction?
