3200 laptop shuts off without warning

Hello. My problem is that my laptop shuts off without warning when I am in the middle of doing something. I can turn it back on no problem but then a few minutes later it will do the same thing. Any ideas? Thank you!

Hi Gents,

I have a friend who came to me with the same issue. I resolved it by replacing the CPU heat compound. I opened the laptop, scraped (Gentle like) the old stuff off the heatsink and cpu, used alcohol swab to clean, and spread a bit of heat compound on the cpu core. Works like a charm now!!

Have you changed any hardware currently?
Any memory upgrade? Any HDD replaced?
Sound like the memory not compatible.

My computer is on but no picture. It says windows was not shut down properly

Hello Pattiaknight,Make a desktop shortcut to shutdown and include a switch that forces all open apps to shut down without warning.

Just right click the desktop, New, Shortcut, type:

Shutdown -f

Shutdown -f closes any open programs without warning.

Now instead of shutting down the usual way, just use that shortcut to shutdown. If the error stops it means some program wasnt shutting down properly on occasion.

Please let me know if you any further questions or concerns. Also please rate it if you like the answer,it helps alot.
Thanks.

New battery in Acer laptop shuts down computer at 44% power ?!?

In the power options at the control panel you can set the battery options there to shut down at a lower percentage. Also within the software for your battery as well. At the task menu lower right hand corner tick the battery settings. John

Om.suddenly shuts down without warning in the middle of my work

This probably happens because your core temperature rises too much. You have to clean the fans of your laptop.

I have an acer 5520 laptop,it has started shutting of without any warning even though plugged in and fully charged

Causes:

1. Overheat

Most cases this is caused by a over heat where the system fan gets blocked or there is not enought air flow, this can damage the system cpu.

Other known causes

AC/ adapter needs to be replaced some case were found that the ac adapter would be the cause as well it would be something to have checked out.

Now if the system shuts off without the ac adapter and its running on the battery as well you might want to look at the overheat issue.

thanks for using fixya please do be considerate and post you ratings and feedback for your answer today.

I have a toshiba Satellite laptop that all of the sudden has started shutting down on me when I am in the middle of something. What could it be?

Depends. When you say it shuts down, do you mean it flashes blue and then shuts off / restarts, or just plain shuts off, and stays off?
If it is flashing blue real fast, then shutting off, here's what you do:
While starting the computer, press F8 as soon as the brand logo goes away, and keep pressing until you get a screen that says Safe Mode on it. Then highlight the Disable Automatic Shutdown option, and hit enter. Use the computer until you get the blue screen. It will give you an error message, followed by a stop code. (0x0000ce or something like that). Get that error code, and bring it back here. I'll tell you what it means.

If it is simply turning off without warning, and stays off, most likely it is overheating. In which case, head to Wal-Mart, go to the computer section where the keyboards are, and pick up a can of compressed air. Blow out the computer right where you see the vent on the side (maybe on back), and try that. If that doesn't work, get a laptop cooling pad and use that. If it still doesn't work, then the heatsink for the CPU needs to be recompounded, in which case take it to a shop. Unless that is you ABSOLUTELY know what you are doing and can do it yourself. IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN A LAPTOP APART BEFORE DO NOT ATTEMPT IT WITHOUT A PROFESSIONAL, YOU WILL BREAK IT.

Let me know how it goes, and i'll try to help you further if need be.

Laptop crashes

well, one of the problems could be that you have had the laptop for a long time and a lot of dust is trapped in the computer. you can probably get this cleaned at bestbuy (geek squad) or circuit city. in my computer, it just locked up
