DVDCD ROM NOT WORKING

I have an ACER 5610Z laptop. No restore disc available. I have tried to restore from an earlier backup as well as uninstalling and reinstalling. In devices it is labeled(!slimtype DVDRW SSM-8515S ATA DEVICE). I get the message 'windows cant load device driver for this hardware-Driver may be corrupted or missing (code 39). When I update driver I get the message 'the best driver software for your device is already installed. Software is up to date. Can you help!?!
