First you need to check the value body (around the value stem) for leaks.. you can use soapy water, your nose for smell...if you suspect a gas leak... turn the gas off to the appliance (located behind the stove) and call your gas supplier or a service tech...
You can use a thin pair of needle nose plyers to hold the stem.. or an easier way is to cut a playing card in half, poke a hole in the middle of it so it will slide over the stem... cut a line for the edge of the card to the hole so you'll be able to pull the card out from under the installed knob...
You will need to locate your full model #, usually open the bottom drawer and you can see it on the chassis on the right or left side. Try searspartsdirect.com type your model in and it will give you a parts breakdown and about the best assembly view your going to get. Sometimes there is more to be desired but this should help. I also have a XL44 (GE JGBP90) and I can't figure out how to latch the door. When I press Self Clean, the display asks me to latch the door, but I don't see a lever. I think it might involve lifting the range, but I don't want to force it. Any ideas?
I have a GE Gas Stove XL44 the stove top buners don't light by themselves without manual lighting. When I turn on the buner knob the buner doesn't click. Also I used my self- cleaning oven for the first time and stopped it before the time was up after that is when the stove top buners wouldn't light by theirselves.
