Sony Trinitron KV-27XBR10 conventional TV sound problem

My Sony Trinitron KV-27XBR10 TV has very nice pictures. unfortunately the sound goes crazy or no sound at all after a couple of minutes turned on.
I unpluged the power from the sound card and the TV still run great without sound.
The incoming power to the sound card is 23.6V and remains stable even when there is no sound.
What should I check?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

An alternate method of determining if the sound card is faulty or something else is to connect a known good receiver/amplifier with speakers to the AUDIO OUT at the rear of the Sony unit using RCA to RCA connectors, or the MONITOR OUT in the same fashion. If there is sound while using the external amplifier, then the sound section is faulty; if likewise none, then it could be the sound processor (SRS) of the XBR not necessarily the "sound card".

You could also try:

  • verifying the position of the SPEAKER OFF switch;
  • cycling through the sound options using the original remote or the front panel controls (bottom button) using the SRS (Sound Retrieval System). Try SAP OFF, MONO, STEREO.
Pls postback updates on any developments.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

The item is difficult to find, here is the volume control board: 9-910-999-35

Here is also th service manual.996425685

Test also the wiring to speakers, call the seller to check when item can be made available, better fixing the unit at component level.

Maybe the socket of the sound card is loose or crack or cold solder it caused not to functioning properly even you replaced it with a new one. That is the common problem of the socket the solder thats holds is loose already.The only thing you do is to rebuild or resolder the joint of the sound card so it hold tight and firmly and its associated parts there.Feel free to ask me whatever the result.

Hopes it may helps you;

Regards;

Hi

The voltage looks good. Sounds like a bad sound card. You should order a new one where one is returnable and test a new card if everything else from the card to the speakers looks good. Let me know how this works out for you

This monitor doesn't have speakers. You need to use a separate audio connection - from the Line out of your Asus to the input of a separate audio amplifier.

Sony Bravia KDL-52XBR TV - have sound but no picture

Hi mstevens376,
Power on the unit in the dark room then shine with the flashlight directly in the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

Unfortunately it sounds like the crt or picture tube is failing. Even though some can be rejuvenated it will be costly getting crt replaced or rejuvenated.
