Is the suction poor at all inlets? If so, you may have a clog in the hose. If just certain inlets, then you may have a clog in the piping. Run a small slip of paper with a number on it (number for each port) then see which one didn't make it to your cannister. Then you will know which section has a clog. Disconnect the pipe at the cannistor, turn it on and see if the suction is good there, if not then you have a problem within the main unit.

We also have bought a Pullman Carpet Washer with no instructions. Our Gosfreys sold it to us, but they cannot supply a mnaual

I have the manual you are looking for. It's about 4 A4 pages, i could possibly scan it or photograph it and email you a copy.

If you or someone you know is handy enough to remove the back cover of the machine you could do me a big favour and send me a couple of photos in return. Mine has a faulty and now missing part and i'm trying to identify it to the spare parts guy so i can fix it.
Let me know...

I have a kenmore cannister vac - model 27514. Do I have to use hepa bags in it, or can I substitute another type, and which would that be?

You know, any bag made for the unit should give similar results. You can buy a cheaper bag and that number is 50558. You can get them at your local vac shop or you can let me know, I will send you some. The price per 3 pack is only 4.95. The canister vac is made in such a way that it doesn't have much leakage. It is quite efficient with or without hepa bag. If you or anyone in your family suffer from asthma, I would recommend the use of the hepa bags. tThanks, Rene(The Vacuum Doctor)

Water leaking from out of the heppa filter

Reasons for that to happen:
a) You have tilted the vac while vacuuming
b) Used the Rainbow without separator (basket like thing on the bottom of the motor)
c) Overfilled the rainbow tank with water (may have happened when shampooing with AquaMate)

Clean and install back the separator, remove HEPA, Set the Rainbow on empty water pan (with HEPA removed) turn it on for a while so everything will dry. Install new HEPA.

You will have to get a new HEPA filter (you can find them HERE)

Good Luck,
Rocky

Hoover Z-400 - Hepa Filter

These filters should be changed at least once a year, they get clogged up and won't clean out. So I would try a new filter and go from there, make sure there are no clogs in the hose and down below where the dirt inlet is.
