Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook
I have two batteries for my Dell E1705. The first is standard with laptop purchase. The second I purchased 1 1/2 years ago. While using the newer battery, my laptop screen went blank (black with barely visible screen). I can hear a poping/sizzling sound just before it happens. I close screen lid, reopen, log on and it work for a few minutes and repeats the same problem. This only happens when I'm on battery power, never when on AC power. I installed the original battery and get the same result. Additionaly, the left side of my screen steady dims within a few minutes of starting, battery or AC power.
The first thing i would do is do a bios update for the machine whilst using AC power, that may well iron the problem out, if not then there is a problem with the laptop itself i.e. a power drain, sizzling and popping noises is not good at all and could damage the machine further, remove the battery and check the connections on the laptop, dust and hair conduct electricity, it could be as simple as that, it is also a known fact that some lithium batteries are faulty and have been known to blow up whilst in use.
Go to the laptops support website to find out if they have been having problems with batteries and if there any returns proceedures
