Question about Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router
Thanks for you help, I appreciate it. I followed your instructions and on my laptop when I click "View Wireless Networks" I get the linksys one like you said, which I am connected to, but when I try to open up Internet Explorer I get a message saying, "Internet Explorer cannon display the webpage." Also, on the "View Wireless Networks" page I no longer see the name of my old Network "HAL", which showed up before.
Should I maybe try uninstalling all the Linksys Software on both my desktop computer and my laptop? Could there be some setting in Internet Explorer that I need to change?
Thanks again for your help. I'd really love to get this to work, its so frustrating not having wireless internet.
Hi ther Jeff!
Let's check the IP address of the laptop. You said that it is connected to the wireless network "linksys". Go back to Control Panel>Network connections. Right click on wireless network connection then click Status. Then, click on Support tab and tell me the IP address you have in there. Click details to get the DNS server addresses.
Let me know these information. You are right, there could be proxy servers enabled in the browser that's preventing you to open a website. What version of IE are you using?
On your IE browser, click TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>CONNECTIONS. From Connections tab, click on LAN Settings. Make sure that there is nothing enabled or check on that window. Then click ok.
Go to Security tab. Then click Custom Level. Look for the option "Reset Custom Settings to" which you will find somewhere at the bottom of the page. Set the custom settings to medium-low. If there is no option for medium-low, then select the lowest option. Click ok all the way out and try launching IE again.
Do a ping also to a certain website and tell me if you'll be able to get responses from that site. Open up command prompt. START>RUN>CMD. Then on the cursor, type ping yahoo.com then press enter. Take note of the ping statistics.
If you have Internet Security firewall enabled in the laptop, turn it off. It can cause a conflict with your router's built in firewall.
Please update me about this incident.
