  • Anonymous Dec 25, 2008

I got GHWT for Christmas and that dang disk has nothing on it!? That's why it doesn't work? I'm gonna contact Activision. I would suggest everyone else do, too. Maybe they wont put up a fight and just send out new ones... with a receipt, of course. It's worth a try.

  • Anonymous Dec 25, 2008

We have the same problem. So the only solution soundsl like to return the entier thing. Is that correct?

  • davesbooch Dec 25, 2008

The game will work in playstation 3, but we don't have the hookups for the controllers. When we put it into the playstation 2 it says no data on disk. This is really frustrating. My kids are very upset.

  • armywife291 Dec 26, 2008

Same problem here. Won't work on the PS2 and can only use the drums on the PS3.

  • ccqback010 Dec 26, 2008

when i put the disc in it reads the disc but at the next screen it has the ghwt logo and the bar loads then it just sits there full

  • Anonymous Dec 27, 2008

I have the same problem. Also my son's Christmas present. Exchange for a new one, still doesn't work. He's almost in tears.

  • Anonymous Dec 28, 2008

I just purchased GHWT from BestBuy the other day - the bundle with the single wireless guitar - and the game wouldn't work. I was going to return it, but I decided to look up online whether or not it was a common problem, and I found this site. I tried the cleaning-the-eye method and it worked! I took the PS2 apart and swabbed the eye with some alcohol then dried it with the other end of the q-tip, put it back together, and it loaded up right away! Amazing.

I just have to say this - the PS2 is my husband's, and I would never willingly purchase a Sony product ever again because they **** and never last. Food for thought.

Here's what I did to fix the same problem on my PS2 (Slim model # SCPH-70012). This should work for all models of PS2's. (Slim or Fat). Sony says all models can read a dual layer disc. If the fix doens't work then you need to send in your PS2 for service.

1) Start up the PS2 with no disc in it.
2) Highlight the 'Browser' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
3) Highlight the 'Console' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
4) Highlight the Diagnostics menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'ON'.
5) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu.
6) Highlight the 'PlaystationDrive' menu and press the 'green triangle' button.
7) Highlight the 'Disc Speed' menu and press the 'blue X' button and select 'FAST'.
8) Press the 'red O' button to back out of this menu.
9) Turn off your PS2.

10) This step is optional.......I blew into the main unit to loosen any dust out of it and then carefully used my shirt to wipe across the lens at the back of the drive. I'm not sure if this mattered or not. Since I did this in conjuction with the above steps I can't say if this is needed.
11) Insert the disc and turn the PS2 back on. The diagnostics should run and automatically adjust your PS2 to play the game. I was amazed! Mine loaded right up after several previous days of nothing.

12) I checked the settings after the initial load and the Diagnostics and Drive speed reset to normal so it must be a one time run thing. My game has loaded everytime since and I haven't had to re-do the settings at all.

I hope this works for you too!!

To all you guys having this problem with PS2 - I bought World Tour for my brother and put it in this morning. It worked the 1st time we put it on, but we restarted the game because both guitars weren't connected, and it would NOT work after that (we have an old fat PS2 by the way). After reading online, I found out this disc is a Dual Layered DVD, and can cause problems reading it

Here's what I did to fix it - I took out all 8 screws on the bottom of the PS2, popped the case off, and then took out the 2 tiny screws for the DVD drive. After taking that case off, you can see the laser lens. All I did was clean it with an alcohol-soaked Q-tip, then buffed it clean, and after turning the game back on - it works fine! We're so pumped over here, and to anyone else having the problem, I bet this will fix it! Good luck!

I had the same issue today when I bought the game. I am using the oldest version of the PS2 available, and was able to get the game to finally load. Since the disk has advanced layering, I did the same thing I do to get the Wii to play Super Smash (A similar issue occurs with this game...)... I turned the console vertically, and inserted the game. Boom- Worked. I can't say this will work for everyone, but if the issue at hand seems to be one of your console's aged ability to read a disk, especially that of the dual-layered type, gravity may have some sort of effect. Turn your console sideways, turn the "PS" icon 90 degrees to match, and see what happens...!

Solution #7 solved the problem! I've had this going on for some time now, and some games play some don't. I was convinced to just buy a Wii if I wanted to play GHWT or similar. I did exactly what #7 recommended and the kids are playing it now.

I'm not sure what it was that fixed it, but I simply took cotton swabs and cleaned the lens area with no solution at all, it was just built up dust that seems like the problem. The piece covering the lens actually slides to allow you to clean it. I slid it back and forth then back to where I found it.

I didn't take the machine apart at all. I also followed the disc speed change to fast and diagnostics to on, turned it off, unplugged everything, cleaned it and pluged it in....

Thanks for the fix. (I just hope it stays fixed. It was VERY frustrating)

I just fixed my sons issue with Guitar Hero world tour on PS2. First, go to this link to take apart your PS2. http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars/1%20-%20T. It will take about 40 minutes to 1 hour to complete. Make sure you have a can of dust cleaner to remove all debris. Once open, the lower the laser the better the read. I found that about 1/4 turn from the bottom worked best. While I had it open I cleaned the lens with alcohol and a Q- tip, then blew it dry with the air. Both my son and I are rocking on cloud 9!!!!
Good luck to all and happy holidays!

The reason the playstation 2 won't read it is because guitar hero world tour as well as rock band 2 gh metallica ect, it because they are dual layered discs. they make them dvd-rom because there is too much info to store on a single layer disc like most every other game ever created on ps2. the only way to fix it to my knowlege is to send the ps2 back to sony and have them re-align the laser so it will be able to read it. which may cost 45 bucks.. idk.. if anyone finds a less expensive way for it to work let me know!

Your disk is fine. I had the exact same issue with my old fat PS2. The problem is the the game system was never designed to read a dual layer DVD. What this means is that the system needs to be re-calibrated. You can send it to Sony for $50 and not have the system for three to four weeks or you can do it yourself in about 10 minutes. Go to this website.

http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars/1

This will show you how to re-calibrate your system. It will void any warranty but the old playstations have been out of warranty for about 4 years anyways. I even have a mod chip system and it worked for me. I do not even have memory card issues or the game even locking up issues anymore. It only takes 10 minutes and will fix your issue.

If you have the problem where the disc won't load, and when you go to the browser menu it won't stop saying, "reading disc..." then you might have to clean your ps2. That's what happened to me. I just used a "Kesington Drive Gaurdian" that had little brushes on the bottom of the disc. You could probably find something like it at an electronics store. Now the game works perfectly. Just put the cleaner in, follow the instructions, take it out, and restart your ps2.
Hope that helps!

Sorry- in my solution I forgot to say that all my other games were working fine, but cleaning the ps2 still helped with the guitar hero world tour game.
    sorry I wasn't clear.

Your playstation is dusty inside. You don't have to take it apart. Buy a can of canned air and clean ps2 and use a laser disc cleaner. This costs around $10 and will solve your problem disc read errors of Guitar Hero World Tour and other games.

I'm not 100% sure of this method but it worked on my friends slimline. For those of you afraid to take apart your ps2 there are a few things you can try. First take a q tip soak it in alchol and wipe down the lens. in your ps2 there is the little circle piece that the game fits into called the drive surrounding the drive is a thin rubber strip clean all of the debris form it. Now if you have compressed air lightly clean out the dust from the ps2 if not a damp cloth or dust cleaner will work and just clean out all the dust. This should get your ps2 running for GHWT but if not there are two other things you can do one is to run a auto diagnoses on the disk and put the disk drive on fast the other is lean the ps2 on its side with memory cards on the ground with the top facing towards the wall or whatever you are using. If your slim still wont work buy a "fat" model or take it to a trusty electronics repair store

Glad to help :)

Apparently ghwt won't work on the silver ps2, i had to borrow a black one and it works on that, but the orange drum pad dosn't work.I think they need to have a mass recall. Activision shouln't be able to get away with this...

Bought for my sons slimline ps2 and didn't load, kept going to system config, returned and got replacement game which still didn't load, I opened up the door and the little laser is just to the back and wiped it with an alcohol wipe, dried off with tissue and then the game worked perfectly.
Hopefully this will help all the slimline consoles.
