Looks like it started happening after the last software update.  Really annoying.  Does anyone test software anymore???

  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2008

Yes I have the same problem, intermittent, slow computer voice (normal voice is fine). Have tried the hard reset, didn't work. Have contacted Tomtom who are now looking into.

I have the same problem on a go 520, once again it seems to be related to a software upgrade.

Similar thing happened to my Garmin Streetpilot after an upgrade, it seems like we the public are used as the software testers!!

i too have the same problem. but i find, i get it the more when i boot up on battery power. as soon as i shut down, connect the in-xar power cord and boot back up, the voice is back to normal and works fine.

but i will try the link in "solution #2" to see if that helps.

I called customer support, and they confirmed it was a software prob. They gave me this web addy to go to, to resolve the issue:

this will give you instructions to remove the software app and reinstall it. It seems to have worked for me, but I haven't used it much after the reinstall, so time will tell.

Mine started doing the same thing after the most recent software update.  I suspect it's a bug in the new software and not a processor problem as suggested.  Have you tried to do a hard reset on yours?  I did and it seemed to help.  You need to press that little reset button on the bottom of the unit.

I have a tomtom 920, it will say the street name to turn on if set to do so & only then if using computer voices, not human voices. Tuning the wrong direction could be its wrong or its trying to take the fast route via a highway, longer route but get there faster

Is battery replaceable and voice does not work all the time

Computer voices, if stored on the unit and enabled, will give you all instructions (turn, ahead, street names, etc.) Custom voices (Simpsons, star voices, etc.) can only egg you on, but cannot say the name of streets. Make sure that you have at least one computer voice in your favorite language.

Where can downloads of computer voices for the xl330s be found?

Go HERE and download tomtom home, it will give you the options for all available voices for your unit.

just run the tomtomt home after you download it, once the programa is running, hook up your tomtom via the usb cable to your computer that was supplied with your tomtom and click on the add voices tab and follow the directions.

Speaking the names of major streets

It will only tell you the names of the streets if you use the COMPUTER voice. The other voices will not announce street names. So go to your voice selection and pick the computer voice...either male or female.
