Question about Pioneer DEH-1600 CD Player

Pioneer car stereo output Ic's

I've replaced many faulty Pioneer PALs in order to restore audio output.Quite often I find a radio that has evidence of the IC overheating, replacing the IC does not restore audio output. Can you tell me what other component needs replacing to get the sound to work again in this case?

In most cases the problem is the electronic volume IC, ref # IC151 and part number PLM003AM (in the DEH-1600). It is a different part number and ref # in other models.

It is not always this part that causes the failure, sometimes it can be the muting transistor, a voltage regulator or even the micro on more rare occasions. It will require some troubleshooting to figure out exactly what part it needs. You will need to have an O-scope to trace down the audio signal and follow it from one pin to another. You also need a multimeter to check a few voltages in the radio. All of this must be done on a test bench with the radio powered on with a power supply. If you do not have these tools, you will not be able to figure it out for certain, you would only be taking a stab in the dark. That can get rather frustrating and even expensive buying parts that do not fix the problem.

The electronic volume IC is a flat pack surface mounted component and requires the very best soldering skills to be able to replace. It is very easy to do damage to the circuit board that can not be repaired if it is not done perfectly. If you have not replaced these type of components before, you should not even attempt this repair.

If you would like the service manual I can sell you the PDF format of it for $10. I also have the service manuals for most Pioneer products as well as Kenwoods, JVC, Panasonic, Denon, Marantz, Clarion, and more. Let me know if you would like to get it. The service manual is very helpful in repairing electronics. It contains the schematics and parts list which is vital to make sure you get the right parts and to be able to trace down any signals and to know what parts are doing wha, and to figuring out if the voltages are correct.

I hope this helps,

Dave

Kenwood kdc-mp345u keeps flashing protect, and i've disconnected the speakers and unplugged the radio for about 30 min, plugged radio back in still flashing protect

Chances are pretty good either the output ic or the volume control ic inside of the radio are bad. Both require the ability to use a soldering iron to replace.

My Philips DCM230 home stereo system wont produce any sound. The CD is playing, the voulme is on, and the mute is off. What could be the problem?

Your output I.C. might be faulty. Output I.C. is the one converting the audio from cd's,tuner, auxiliary to sound which passes to your speakers.
Since your Output I.C. is defective then the unit will not generate any sound even your inputs(cd,tuner, auxiliary) is working.

It is quite technical so I've advice you to look for a qualified technician to isolate the problem and do resoldering also for some dry joints on the main board.Dry joints also will might caused for damaged a parts.

Thanks for using fixya.

check the fuse behind the wireharness. if good check the fuse in your vehicle. if still no power you might have a faulty ic in your radio which is causing it to short out . the ic# (pal 007a) which is located behind the aluminum part in the back of the radio.

No sound from a pioneer deh p5200

due to being an older model radio the output (ic) which is behind the rear of the radio is probably unsoldered or faulty the part number is pal 005a or pal 007a which is replaceable with a tda 7386 which is the same part but cheaper.

Most of the car stereos are 40 to 50 watts output.so they need a stronger fuse than 3A.This kind of radios use 10A fuse.
