Question about Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 Digital Camera

Open Question

3 -4 secs. vibration and unstable viewfinder image at power up

Minolta Dimage Z5 works fine except that on power-up the image in theviewfinder seems to roll or shake and appears as multiple images for 2or 3 seconds until the image locks in. It is the same in bothviewfinders. Then all is well. There is a a certain amount of internalknocking /vibration during this time.(It is over and above the normalsound of the lens mechanism which I know from my Z1) The frequency ofvibration varies from very fast to four or five knocks a second. Itseems to come from the real of the lens or behind the largerviewfinder. Nothing is obviously loose or jamming . Power-offworks ok. Zoom works ok. Focus seems ok. Exposure is accurate.Batteriesare new. I recently purchased camera second hand. I have had severalZ1and other cameras none with anything similar. Local dealer has notcome across the fault before either. Hope you can help. I know Minoltaparts are like hen's teeth, but I would like to have some idea of whatit is.

SOURCE: Konica Minolta DiMage Z5

Hi, I have the same black area in the corner of my shot, and 'fluttering' on turning the camera on. Have called Jessops and a local independent camera shop. Both have told me that Minolta have been bought by Sony, and as such, there is no support for the Minolta cameras, which is very poor. Also, the price of cameras has come down so much over the last few years, that it is cheaper to buy a replacement than to attempt to have it repaired. A Fuji Finepix S5700 was suggested by my independant shop...does a similar job to the Dimage and costs £99. I was quoted £125 to have the Dimage looked at by Jessops! It's a no-brainer for me, although very annoying as I love my Dimage.
Hope this helps a little.

SOURCE: focus/zoom issue with Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 digital camera w/ 12x zoom

This is a symptom commonly listed for DiMAGE cameras listed on EBay for 'parts only'. Dropping the camera I had caused the same problem and carefully 'smacking' the camera once again did solve the problem but that may have been dumb luck. Sorry but it is a service task that may cost more than the camera.

My Konica Minolta Dimage z5 won't play back photos

What size memory card are you using? I have had this problem trying to use a a 4gb card, which apparently is not compatible with the Z5. Using a 2gb card seems to alleviate the problem.

The odds are you have a broken spring in the anti-shake assembly which has allowed the lens unit to shift to one side. The smudge you are seeing is the edge of the lens housing and will have a slight rounded shape. As you zoom in, you are extending the lens past this area so it no longer shows.

Minolta dimage 7i powers up all functions but lcd and viewfinder are blank

You both are in luck. This sounds like a defective Sony CCD issue. Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. You need to do this before March 31, 2008 so get going! See this link:
The Dimage models that Sony is accepting for the recall repair are:
Dimage 7HI, 7I, A1, Xi, F300, XT, X20, S414.

This sounds like a jammed shutter. There is a very delicate assembly inside your lens which blocks light from the image sensor at the moment you snap the picture in order for it to be able to record what it was seeing at that very moment. Normally after the sensor has finished recording the image the shutter will re-open allowing you to compose another image. If you see the icons and text as you would expect, but do not see any image - this shutter jam is the most likely cause. This assembly is so delicate that even slight impacts, condensation, or contamination from dust or dirt can cause the shutter to not open after it has shut resulting in a black image at all times. The shutter will sometimes clear itself and begin functioning again, but usually it requires disassembly and manual re-setting. Due to the complexity of the lens assembly in this camera (because of the anti-shake features) you will need to send the camera to the manufacturer if you wish to get this problem fixed.
