You will need:

1) the recovery disk provided by Acer

or

2) Windows CD to format and reinstall your OS again

How to factory reset without recovery disk

When you need to recover part or all of the files on your Acer Veriton M460 desktop computer, Acer makes it easy to do by offering a built-in recovery program called eRecovery Management.
This option uses clean operating system files, usually stored on a separate partition of your hard drive, to correct errors or return the system to its original factory settings.
You can also use this program to write separate hard copies of the eRecovery program onto CDs or DVDs in case of hard drive failure.
Create Backup Disks

If your M460 did not come with separate recovery disks, and many machines don't in recent years, you can create your own through "Acer's eRecovery Management" program located under the "Start" menu.
Click on "Backup," select "Create Factory Default Disk" and follow the on-screen directions.
The program will inform you of the number of CDs or DVDs you need and help you through their creation.
Recovery with Disks
To use your created disks for recovery, place the first disk in the optical drive and reboot the system. As it boots, hold the "ALT" key and tap "F10" repeatedly until the computer boots and you see a screen titled "Starting Acer eRecovery."
You will see three options for recovery: to factory default, from user backup or from CD/DVD. Choose the option you desire and follow the on-screen directions to initiate the recovery sequence.
Recovery from the Hard Drive

Since Acer places the eRecovery Management program directly onto the computer, you can run the recovery option while in your desktop.
Open the "Acer eRecovery Management" program under the "Start" menu and click "Restore." You can choose to restore the computer to factory defaults and lose all the personal data stored on the hard drive or only restore the operating system and leave your data intact.
Select "Yes" on the confirmation screen and then "OK" to start the program.
Recovery Vs. Restore
When performing computer problem solving, the term "recovery" is often used interchangeably with the word "restore."
In some cases, "recovery" can mean to simply correct problems, such as replacing corrupted operating system files with good ones.
The term can also refer to "recovering" the system to its fresh-from-the-factory state, which is what "restore" means as well.
Restore Drivers or Applications

Acer's eRecovery Management program also offers the option to reinstall drivers or applications, which could become corrupted or damaged over time.
This option allows you to replace the current drivers for your Windows operating system with the ones originally installed on your system.
Under the "Restore" tab of the "Acer eRecovery Management" program, click "Reinstall Drivers or Applications" to see the content list and select the files you'd like to recover.

Need to reset acer aspire 1200 desktop

The Aspire One is a netbook produced by Acer; it does not come equipped with a CD ROM drive, so a traditional hard drive reformat and Windows reinstallation is not possible without a peripheral storage device. An external USB CD or flash drive will suffice, however.Difficulty:Moderate

Instructions

    • 1 Plug in the external CD drive, then turn on your netbook and let it boot to your operating system.
    • 2 Open your web browser and go to the BootDisk website (see link in Resources). Download the Windows XP Fresh Install Bootable CD, then burn these files to a blank CD via your external CD drive.
    • 3 Ensure the files have burned to your bootable CD, then restart the netbook with the CD still in the drive.
    • 4 The netbook should boot to the CD upon the restart. Follow the instructions prompted for installation. Upon completion you will have a clean installation of Windows XP on your Acer Aspire One.

My e310 had a fatal system error #'s c000021a,0x0000135 (0x0000000 0x0000000) what does this mean?

It sounds like you need to send it into the shop to get if fixed. But first, to save your critical files, you will need to take the hard drive out and hook it up to another computer as "a slave" and then copy all of your files. There is an adapter that you will need to buy to hook it up to to a desktop computer. I don't remember what it is called, but perhaps your friendly local computer store would be able to help you with that.

If it is not under warranty, and if you want to try to fix it yourself, then you probably need to reinstall everything. Did it come with a pack of Installation CDs or a Recovery CD? If not, it is probably all on a hidden partition on your laptop. To access those files, you need to look in your start menu and look for a folder that has your manufacturer's name on it. In this case, it would be Dell. Somewhere in that folder, you should find a link that says something about restoring your laptop to the state that it was in when you bought it. This will completely format your hard drive and start you out fresh again--just as it was when you opened the box. HOWEVER, since it DOES format your hard disk before re-doing it, your critical files would be erased, so be sure to retrieve them before you do this.

Once you get your laptop working again, I would seriously recommend you buy either Acronis True Image or another good backup program and use it often. Then, the next time this happens, it would be easy to fix--by just running the backup program. If you want to partition your hard drive, the Acronis Disk Manager Suite is a good program too

I want to reboot my acer aspire 7730 laptop to factory settings? but it did not come with a cd in the box?

You're right, the CD's did not come in the box. When you initially set up your laptop you were given an option to make these CDs. If you go to START you should see a line about making Recovery CDs. If not check in Accessories, System. Unless it's been deleted there should be a file that allows you to make recovery CDs. In case you get confused in your search Acer sometimes calls this there eRecovery system. You can also purchase these CDs from the Acer support site.

I was trying to backup my files and got half way through and had to put in a new CD. And then when CD is loaded it comes up saying to insert CD.

wither the new cd is not empty or damage, try to put a brand new CD .

I prefer when you backup your files, dont use the backup program cause if you need to restore something you have to extract them all, I realy recommend to devide your files as they are on their format to 5 cds ( images / documents / etc....) so at any time you can find your files easily .

good luck

I had to reboot my acer now my hard drive is almost full. How I make space for it. Also i have an error 1 in my mass control. Help I didn't now that acer laoptops had so much problems. I plug the cord and...

Backup you files and documents to DVD then reload Windows using the restore DVDs or CDs the notebook came with. This will solve your space issue as well as your mass storage controller error.

Also sounds like you may need a new AC adapter and battery, both should be faily easy and inexpensive to purchase on eBay. Just search by you Acer model number and both the AC adapter and battery should show up. I would at least get the AC adapter, sounds like there is a break in your cable. I got one for my wife's Acer for under $30.
