I was under the impression that i could unlock Video capabilities while driving, simply by grounding the supplied parking break wire. After about 20 feet of driving a message pops up on the screen that says, "parking brake wire not installed properly." How may i fix this?

Re: unlock video capability while driving
If you are installing this type of head unit make sure to connect the
parking brake wire, now here is how I made my dvd player work while
you want video anytime connect this wire to a GROUND (negative). Make
sure not to connect this wire to a hot (positive) or you will fry your
new dvd player. Now be aware that in most states it is illegal to have
video playing where the driver can watch. ( I think that most police
officers have better things to do than pull people over for a movie
playing in the front, but I could be wrong ) I hope this post helps
some of you out before you have to pull your head unit back out and
hook the wire up like I had to!

This is a very irritating problem with the D-90 in Video mode.
In fact, Nikon has done a really poor job with it's video function in its very, very good still cameras.
I have an Olympus that cost less than 1/4 what I paid for my Nikon D-90 and it's video quality and zoom capability is 20 times better than Nikon while it's function as a still camera is almost equal to Nikon.
I can do far more with the Nikon but do I really need to?
The only thing you can do in video mode is stop shooting. Then you have to refocus before you can shoot the next video clip. This takes tine as has caused me to miss good shots because I could not simply pause and resume shooting at the same lens setting I had been using.
Since I shoot nearly as much video as I do still stuff, I should have bought a different camera...one which does have good video capability. If I had invested the same amount of money in an Olympus that I have in my Nikon, I'd wager that I'd have better video capability and high quality still capability as well. And Olympus has a great electronic zoom and autofocus that beats Nikon hands down.
In the end, if you want decent video capability in a still camera, Nikon is not the way to go unless they've improved enormously since coming out with the D-90.

Because the 50D is the newer model it is quite a bit more expensive than the 40D. However, the reviews don't find that the quality has improved very much. Unless the 50D has a feature you simply must have, the 40D is going to be a much better value.
Neither has video capabilities. If you want the best video capabilities as well as top-quality still photos, without spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, take a look at the 5D Mark II. This camera has amazing video capabilities for the price (under $3k). Most camera stores have a long waiting list so if you want this model you will have to put your name on a list and wait at least a few weeks before you get your camera.
In the US, neither the MX300 nor the MX310 have a memory card slot (I'm not sure about other areas). In order to get the memory card reader, you would have to get the MX700 or MX850 (fax capable), or the MP470 or higher (number).
