I have a Dell monitor at home which keeps switching off on its own, every now & then. I use an Acer monitor at work and it works fine.

If your Sceptre X5G is doing the same thing mine is, power goes ON then OFF, and ON, and OFF, every second or two continuously, then Fix4U was *INCORRECT* and it is not a backlight inverter problem. I have the same thing happen to mine and the power is going on and off, not the backlight. I have a couple of other LCD's from another mfg that do have bad inverters, so I know how that behaves as well.

I am looking for help and I believe the problem may be in the latch or sleep circuits in the monitor's power circuit. More likely the latch circuit since the power light doesn't go amber, but turns completely off. Interestingly though, I can press the power switch and it will turn off and stay off. Once I press the power switch again, it will do the ON/OFF/ON/OFF routine until I turn it off again.

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty or just replace them they might be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electical extensions

even something as small as an electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs all electrical power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

My monitor is a dell 2000 flat screen 20.1" turns

This is a backlight problem. The picture is there but there is no light from behind the LCD screen. It could be due to faulty capacitors, which are easy to replace. It could be a faulty Inverter transformer, which is harder to fix but he backlight controller board can usually be replaced at a reasonable price. If you have soldering experience you may be able to replace the faulty capacitors - look for capacitors with bulging tops.
Repalcing the inverter board in a job for someone with electronics experience. You can buy a universal inverter board for about £15 to £20 from e-bay.
20 inch monitors can be bought for about £100 to £150 so you need to decide whether it is economical to repair.

The lcd turned black, even though the power button is on

First, connect this monitor to another computer, if you still do not get a Windows image on the Samsung LCD monitor then it is faulty. The fault could be a faulty inverter board that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or the fault could be a faulty CCFL lamp.
Parts for this monitor could be avaiable from LCD Parts, theie WEB site is :-

Moniter not lighting

Most common failure in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what goes wrong:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

When I switch my 22'' lcd monitor on it displays a message '' disconnected '', I have just bought it secondhand.

The message "disconnected" shows that the LCD not receiving signals from the input source.
Verify that the source is working properly.
If you are using this LCD as a PC monitor, connect it to the PC's VGA out via a VGA cable. Make sure that your PC's display output is working (are you able to use another monitor?).
Also try using another VGA cable to check if your old one is faulty.
After making appropriate connections, turn your LCD off and then back on after 10 seconds.
If your problem is still unsolved, it may be a sign of a faulty component inside the LCD but the chances are rare.

Monitor blinks on then turns off after computer boots up

It could be your LCD backlight giving you problems. When the image "goes off" shine a flashlight in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Look for the ?Start? button, if your backlight is not working you?ll see a faint ?start? button if you look closely. Depending on the monitor this is usually and economically repairable problem. Fading monitor

This is most probably cause by one or more Faulty Electrolytic Capacitors, I find these are the MOST commonest form of "Fault" in these LCD's TFT's units. I ususally simply replace "On Spec" all High Value Electros, in fact ALL Electro's are suspect and often I just "Shotgun" and replace 'em all. Usually fixes all problems. Always use High Temperature Caps, Good luck.

My monitor not stay on

Very common for this model that top backlight globe goes faulty. Can be also inverter PCB fault. If you have couple spare lights connect them to your inverter instead of panel lights and see if fault remains.
