Question about Garmin GPS Devices

2 Answers

The last time I used the Garmin Street Pilot 2620 it worked fine, but now just a week later when I turn it on it first reads "GarminStreet Pilot 2620". After that it shows the WARTNING message then "Reading Map Information" "Please Stand By". Then it goes dark for a second then repetes itself over and over. I've tried pressing the buttons (page Menu find and speak) and there is no responce. My user name is pacecar1097 Password 5DQFNAF3 Code K49CXC9 Thank You Charles Baynes 410-937-6257 pacecar1097@comcast.net FYI I installed an upgrade on this unit in January of this year. Try a master reset first:

  1. With the unit plugged in but turned off, hold down the Page and Menu buttons at the same time.
  2. While holding down the buttons, turn on the unit.
  3. Continue holding down the buttons. A message displays to confirm that you really want to erase all user data.
  4. Let go of the buttons and press Yes.
  5. You can then set up your unit again.
Once you complete the reset, let the unit sit stationary outside for 15-30 minutes with an open view of the sky so that it can acquire satellites.

PS - It is not safe to post your usernames and passwords/codes etc publicly on the internet..

There is a reset procedure that I will post here.

Call Garmin :Toll Free: 1-800-800-1020

Your Street Pilot is less than one year old, and should still be under warranty cover.

Try removing the cover of the streetpilot using your thumbnail and press the reset button. then press the "on" button.

If the reset does not fix it, then the disk is probably defective.

AndrexT missed by a mile I'm afraid. The 2620 has no battery. It requires a constant power supply.

Garmin StreetPilot 2620 totally dead

For the problem you are experiencing it is unlikely the time and effort needed to be spent trying to repair the product will be worth it compared to purchasing a used replacement 2610 for around $60. However, if your touch screen and accessories work you may wish to sell them on a third party web site for spare parts for others. You could fetch as much as $30 depending on what you have. If you have a remote and bean bag mount those alone can catch up to $30 + shipping.

The garmin 2620 will not load maps

You are caught in a loop most likely caused by a failed microdrive. Search Garmin 2620 cornice for a thread that is likely to provide the information about the failure you are experiencing. In short, if it is the Cornice drive that has failed you will find it very difficult to repair, if not impossible depending on your level of expertise and ability to find a used part for repair as the drives needed are no longer manufactured or readily available.

HOW TO CALIBRATE GARMIN STREET PILOT 2620

I am assuming you want to calibrate the touch screen. Press MENU, click DISPLAY, Press find, press find, follow instructions on screen. You can also hold MENU and FIND at startup and a diagnostic screen will start up, pressing menu repeatedly while on this screen will give you an opportunity to calibrate the screen. If you are looking for a solution on how to do something else, please post additional information and I will do my best to assist.
