Question about Reddy R60A Utility Heater

1 Answer

Heavy smell I have an All-Pro Kero Heater Model # R60A . I purchased it from Home Depot last Oct. It worked great for heating my garage, and there was very little odor. This year when I run it, the odor or fumes are so bad you can't stand it. I cannot fine my manual. Is this a adjustment problem, or a bad part?

I have en older model that does the same thing. My unit also runs for a minute then cuts out and restarts a half second or so later. I have cleaned out all old kero, flushed tank with denatured alcohol, let it dry a day, then filled with new kero. Still smokes, smells, and cuts out. I keep it, hopping that I can find out what it needs. I have almost given up on it.

We have an internal kerosene boiler. How do I get rid of smells

Good luck with that. There are fuel additives that you can use ... some will reduce the smell a little. Make sure your heaters are properly adjusted and absolutely clean. I have been around kero for many years, my parents cooked with kero in the 40's. You may want to consider another kind of auxiliary heat. Natual gas is of course the best followed by electric and propane then fuel oil depending on what options are actually available to you.

did you try cleaning the lens of the photocell, they git dirty from smoke ver time which regulates the flame or replace the nozzle, sounds like it could be getting plugged up? usually any heating store would have a nozzle for a couple bucks if you get the number off it. the nozzle is right where it comes out and they are common to plug up at times with wear

CAN I PUT DIESEL IN MY KERO REDDY HEATER 150,000 BTU HEATER AND WILL IT SMELL OR RUIN IT

since the combustion temp of diesel is different from KERO, expect the heater to shut down from overheating at times.
since it will probably heat up faster than on KERO.

Filters for dyna-glo pro

You can make your own filters out of felt and I have also found that with some minor modifications most of the parts from Mr. Heater will work with Dyna Glo. I have a 170btu kerosene heater and just installed an ignition, a high limit control and a flame sensor from Mr. Heater and it works like new.
