BJC-80 - Wont' print

Did you ever get you BJC-80 to print again ? I seem to have same problem. Installed BJC 80 as 85 with paralel to USB cable on my Vista laptop. The BJC takes all commands and execute all but does not print. All is moving but nothing appears on the paper. Cleaned the heads at least 5 times and changed the cartridges three times. No change! Please help!
Thank you

Umm, The BJC 80 is first of all NOT supported on Vista, ie no drivers available for Vista. Sometimes they work with the innate drivers on Vista, other times they dont. That is why while you can hear all the gears running, there is no actuall output.

My honest advice would be to simply purchase a newer model that is supported by Vista. Lots of cheap model out there, if you are looking for a cost effective solution as well..

Sounds like you need to take a look at the paper pickup roller.
the roller need to be changed if they appears to be smooth.
the roller should be the same consistency as new wide rubber band.

Hello toelpel,

First i want to maek sure your printer really have a problem, or you are just sending the wrong comand.
Go to microsoft work:
1. type in anything.
2.select  file > print
3. Then at the top of the printer window that just appeared, Make sure you have selected the " BJC 80 InkJet Printer "

Good luck

YES. THERE ARE SEVERAL USB-PARALELL CABLES CABLES IN THE MARKET. JUST CHECK IN THE WEB OR YOUR HARDWARE STORE. PRICE SHOULD BE AROUND 15 TO 20 US DOLLARS, DEPENDING ON BRAND, QUALITY, ETC. SOME OF THE (MOST) BRIG A DRIVER CD. ONE THING YOU SHOULD HAVE IN MIND IS THAT WHEN INSTALLING YOU BJC-80 IT WONT PRINT UNLESS YOU GO TO PRINTER PROPERTIES, PORTS AND UNMARK "BIDERECTIONAL COMPATIBILITY", THE GO TO ADVANCED OPTIONS AND CHECK ON "PRINT DIRECTLY TO THE PRINTER", OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. (SORRY ALL MY SOFT IS IN SPANISH...) RESTART THA COMPUTER AND ENJOY. I HAVE A BJC-70 AND A BJC-80, USE THEM ON XP SP2 AND VISTA. BOTH WORKING FINE. DO NOT EXPECT SPEED PERFORMANCE. GOOD LUCK

Trying to hookup bjc 80 to acer aspire 4730z running vista, don't have disc but am hooked up via usb.

you need the printer driver for vista in order to be able to print out. But Canon does not offer drivers for XP and Vista for bjc-80, however you can manually install the driver for BJC-85 and get the printing function going, but the scanner cartrige does not work through USB.

You are correct on your deduction.
It is the USB to Parrallel adpter. They are not reliable in the XP/Vista enviroment. I have run into this several times.

The software package just doesn't work well with older peripherals that use legacy parallel or serial com ports. Too many sloppy layers.

THE BEST WAY to add an LPT printer port to your laptop is to use a PCMCIA to Parallel adapter card.
The PC Card slot provides access to the laptop's data bus, and the PC Card adapter easily sets up as a native LPT port within almost any OS.

There is no delay, or connection problems as I've seen in so many complaints about USB to Parallel or Legacy Serial adapters. Printing is Instant.

PCMCIA is a mature standard, and works seamlessly with XP and Vista, and almost any other OS.

PARALLEL is the old standard fast data protocol. IEEE 1284 ECP mode up to 1.5 Mbps.
The BJC-80 and the BJC-85 have the same print speed. The BJC-85 just added USB.

INFRARED is ver 1.0 on the BJC-80, and printing is a bit slower at 115.2 kbps. Even the BJC-85 with its higher IRDA transfer rating and a laptop's built-in IR port, the XP print spooler has problems with it, and can hang if printing more than one page, and especially with more than one document. It will not scan.

I use IR for printing single pages only with either the BJC-80 or BJC-85.
USB to IRDA adapters work fine, and are less expensive $5-6 than
PCMCIA to Parallel adapters, $20-25.

I have tested and used several PCMCIA adapters from different manufacturers, and they all work perfectly as a hot-pluggable, instant LPT and/or Legacy Serial port for my laptops.
TIPS:
After installing the PC Card driver, check Device Manager for the LPT port number.
Install the printer manually from the list of printers, and select the proper LPT port.
Most laptops have two PCMCIA slots. If you change slots, the adapter card driver may reinstall, and assign the next available LPT port, LPT2.

To scan with the BJC-80, you must have an LPT port.
The PC Card adapter also allows the use of the IS-12 scanner cartridge within XP or Vista.
Within Vista, set the Canon ISScan software to run in Windows 98 compatibility mode, to allow use of the TWAIN driver.

Slow printing

I'M USING MY BJC 80 ON A PACKARD BELL M35-U-57, VISTA HOME BASIC. CONNECTED THE PRINTER WITH A GENERIC USB-PARALELL CABLE, NO DRIVER. FIRST HAD THOSE 5 TO 7 MINUTES DELAYS FOR PRINTING. WENT TO THE PRINTERS "PROPERTIES", "ADVANCED OPTIONS" AND TICKED "PRINT DIRECTLY", IN THE "PORTS" SECTION I DISABLED "BIDERECTIONAL PORT". IT'S WORKING SWEET. NO MATTER THE QUALITY.
