Question about Zyxel Computers & Internet
Zyxel Prestige 324 purchased Dec 2002. ok as a switch linking 2 PCs ADSL technology, without using WAN. New internet prrovider needs to use WAN to link both PCs and use available IP No. But unable to log on to configure the Zyxel. Get 4 spot passord on the log in dialog box; when I click on it, string of black spots appear and immediately vanish. No logging in. How do I proceed? (Note: never changed the password, presumably it is the factory set 1234)

Since you are referring to a router you can access the configuration using the web configuration you just need to type the router default ip address on your browser to access the configuration.
the default ip address is 192.168.1.1

You have to contact your service provider. That's a thing which is done by them to secure there internet service. They will give you the username and password. I evn tried that and they asked me to type the modem name and 'admin' as a password. For example, my modem is STstarcom. so the username wax starcom and password: admin.

Make sure you can go online directly to the airtel broadband. If internet works fine, connect the D-Link router to the Beetle. That should be going to the Internet port or WAN port of the D-link. Then your PC to port 1. Try to power cycle both devices now. Unplug the power to the router first then to the modem. Wait for 30 seconds. Power on modem first, wait for the lights to go solid, then power on the router. Check if the internet works fine hardwired. If it is, wireless should work as well. Just connect to the signal coming from the D-link.

You probably have to "clone" your computer's MAC address to the router. Usually the cable providers register your computer's physical address (aka hardware or MAC address). So in order to let your router get connected your router has to send the same MAC address. This is called MAC address cloning.
To get your machine's MAC you go run->cmd and on the command line write "ipconfig /all". This will show you the info of all adapters you have on your computer. Search for the ethernet adapter and get its physical address. It should look like (xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx) where x is a number 0-9 or a letter A-F.
Once you have that you need to go to your router's configuration page and find where you can insert the clone MAC. You may also need to enable the cloning from the same page.
Hope that will help.
