Question about Whirlpool MH6150XMS Microwave Oven
On this 1997 or 98 model year Whirlpool, over the range, 1.7 cu ft black plastic door w/glass turntable model, there are two prongs on the door that couple with small square openings in the white interior door frame. The lower opening contains a small white plastic power switch or interlock that seems to be loose or is shorting; no switch visible in the upper opening. When the door is closed the interior oven light and fan operate non-stop even though the "cook" command is not entered, however the turntable does not spin and the microwave generator does not appear to fire up. Normally when the door is closed the oven is completely off unless a cooking command is entered. Question -- how do I access and repair or replace this switch? What is the part called? And do I have to de-install the over-range unit to make repairs or is there access to this area from underneath?
Fixed this problem! The door latches were greasy and sticking in the closed position (i.e., pushed down so not latching and engaging fully when the door was closed) and this created the problems described above. Solution was to squirt some Windex into the latch holes to dissolve the grease. The switches popped back into position (must be spring-loaded) and the door closed and latched properly, allowing the oven to function properly. I swabbed out the hole with a q-tip, let it dry for 20 minutes and all is well.

This Kenmore is made by LG for Whirlpool. Confused yet? :D
F4 means you have an open humidity sensor.
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
At our Web site here, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
To find helpful exploded view diagrams and get part numbers, you can just enter your full model number at the Sears parts site.
A full Sears/Kenmore model number has 3 digits, a dot, then 8 more digits, such as ###.########
But Sears parts can usually be obtained for far less here by entering either the part number.
