Question about JVC DVD & Blu-Ray Players

2 Answers

Lightening hit really close to my house and my JVC DVR doesn't work anymore. I didn't buy the extended warranty from Fry's when I bought the DVR and they won't fix it since I didn't buy their service policy. I need to find someplace to have my DVR fixed. I live in Austin, TX.

Possibly it can be fixed. Lightning can make it unprofitable to repair. A reputable shop should be able to give you a reasonable estimate. Ask the people that sell these things and ask who fixes theirs.

I wish you well.

It may be a little late for the DVR. But by using surge protected power strips in the future, you may save yourself some grief. BUT, a real close lightning strike can still take out some things even with all the surge protection I have.

Get the power strips with Mov's and rf filtering, and with a warranty on protected equipment.

Maybe. It may not have burnt out much and it may be simple to fix.

Or it have fried a bunch of components or the microprocessor and would not economical to repair

No! I'am afraid not, this is a manufacture defect and can only be rectified by exchange, if that is even possible.

When the open/close button is push , the DVD tray open and it close immediately without pushing button. The tray won't stay in the open positions.

check the close circuit switch inside the system. its maybe stuck, try to wiggle it a bit and it might work again.
the switch is at the end of the tray when it is closed, its a small black push botton swith.
be careful not to fry it when installing a new part

Need remote code to use a universal remont on my

hello, your DVD did come with a manual I guess.Talking about universal remote,I think it comes with a manual. You can request for a new universal remote control with a manual that contains the code of the device you are using. If not you could also buy the appropriate remote control for your device at an electronic store where they sell elect products, or better still, buy the remote from the place you bought your device. if you experience anymore problems operating your device pls feel free to let me know.
Thanks.

Firmware crashed, unable to get repair in UK

I also have a faulty unit with discs that hadn't yet been finalised. You can access the discs via your PC. I used a program called IsoBuster by Smart Projects. There is a free demo which you can download. Just google it.

As for the faulty power supply, just scrap the unit and DON'T buy JVC again. Eventually, they will have to listen to the economies of scale.........

LOCKED DVR

I just bought the CH-DVR 1600 @ Target. This is just a temporary workaround to enable playing of region 2 DVD disks (don't have other regions but believe it will work also), until the real regional unlock is available.

1. Insert the region 2 DVD disk and close the tray.
2. Wait for the "Wrong Region" popup to appear in the upper-right corner of your TV screen.
3. The display on your DRV reads "STOP" at this point and the "Wrong Region" popup has disappeared.
4. Press the number "1" button on your DVR remote and a small input popup will appear in the upper-left corner of your screen.
5. Do not press anything else and the DVR will accept this entry as a chapter # and proceed to this chapter to start playing the movie.

NOTE1: The DVR runs in a somewhat restricted node, e.g. the DVR display still reads "STOP" and some remote functions do not work, such as "Menu". The input numbers correspond to the chapters on the DVD disk, so you can experiment and get to the menu once you hit one of the extra feature chapters with a "back to the menu" link on it.

NOTE2: I’m anxiously awaiting the real unlock sequence, as I tried most of the old ones posted here, none seemed to work.

also try this
-Switch player ON with no disc in the tray. Close tray and press MENU, 1, and 9 on the remote control. A menu should appear with the Region Option. Highlight the Region entry and press ENTER on the remote. Type in the Region you want. (Put 0 for code free) Press ENTER again to confirm choice. Press OPEN/CLOSE TRAY button and put in movie.

Some recommend cleaning the heads to solve the problem. Others suggest tapping it on the side. You might check with JVC to see if there is an extended warranty.
