Question about Vtech I5881 Cordless Phone

Open Question

Answering Machine Problem w/ a V-tech i 5881: You hear the outgoing message fine but after the beep and before you can utter one syllable, the machine cuts you off (beeps at you) so the caller is unable to leave a message. This occurs randomly and without warning. It does not seem to matter if the caller is calling from a home (land line) or cell phone, or if there are messages or not on the machine. The number of messages does not seem to matter and we only use mailbox 1 for messges. It will do it several times in a row and then later in the day, a caller is able to leave a message just fine. V-tech was of NO help in this matter other than to say the softtware was scrambled by a power surge. My friends are getting peeved with my machine! Any help or advice would be appreciated

SOURCE: answering machine is scrambled

I had the same problem, even took one phone and base set back for new trade. I had the same problem with the second one until I installed a DSL internet Filter in my telephone input line. That cured the problem.

I need to know how to retrieve my messages when not home. I have the Southwestern Bell Freedom Answering Machine Model No. FA 972. Thank you.

Call your phone, let the outgoing message play when the machine answers, and wait for the beep. After the beep, enter the 3-digit security code you'll find on a sticker on the bottom of the machine. The machine will beep twice to let you know you entered the right code and it's ready for your commands.

Remote commands:

1# Plays messages in mailbox 1
2# Plays messages in mailbox 2
3# Deletes old messages (you need to play them all back first)
7# Starts recording a new outgoing message (press 7# again to stop recording)
9# Turn the system on or off
0# Monitor the room

While you're playing messages (you pressed either 1# or 2#) you have these commands:

3# Erase current message
6# Repeat previous message
7# Skip to next message
8# Repeat current message
## Stop playback

After your messages have played, you have 20 seconds to enter another command before the machine disconnects automatically.

You can download the manual here so you'll have a copy for future reference.

How do i get messages from remote location

To use your system from a remote telephone, you must first enter a 3-digit remote operation security code. The security code label is located on the bottom of the system.

1. Dial your phone number.

2. When your outgoing message is playing, enter your remote operation security code. Bd appears on the display to indicate the system is in remote mode.

If there are no new messages, you hear three beeps.
These are the remote codes available to you:

2 # Play all messages.
2 5 Play new messages.
3 # Delete all old messages.
7 # Record new outgoing message.
7 # Stop recording outgoing message.
8 # Record memo.
8 # Stop recording memo.
9 # Turn system off/on.
0 # Monitor the room..

Radio shack 43-3829 answering machine

Well, your machine might be broken, or you haven't set the little switch on the unit to ANS. The switch is on the side of the machine where the cables come out. But here are the instructions from the manual:

Recording Outgoing Messages:

Your answering machine has a built-in outgoing message, "Hello, please leave a message after the tone." You can use this message or record your own.

1. Hold the ANNC/DAY/<<, and speak clearly into the microphone, no more than 10 inches away.

2. Release the ANNC/DAY/<< when you finish. Your answering machine beeps and automatically plays back your recorded message.

*Your outgoing message must be between one and 60 seconds.

*If you record your won message but wish to revert to the pre-recorded message, press DELETE during playback of your outgoing message.
