Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

Open Question

MAH5500BWQ bot 11/2004 Leaving flecks of dirt, staining clothes

It appears the drum that holds the water, outside the stainless tub with holes the clothes go into, has either rusted or has accumulated a large quantity of setiment in the smelly water which never drains fully. The washer is no longer usable because it is destroying clothes with flecks of rust or dirt that leave stains when placed into the dryer. Any clothes places in this POS washer must be hand washed afterwards before they can be dried. It is only my wife and I, I am the only one who has ever used this washer (with HE detergent). I wash our clothes (we both work in health care and never do anything to get our clothes muddy, etc), bed clothes and towels in it, nothing that should ever have caused this problem. I see there was a class action law suit settled in 2005 for such things, is there a solution to this proplem other than another law suit?

If you use fabric softener it may be from the softener. Dilute your softener 50% before pouring it in.

SOURCE: I get what look like rust streaks on my white

1. Iron or manganese in the water supply. • Avoid using chlorine bleach on rust stains. It will make them darker and more obvious. • When iron is dissolved in the water, use granular detergent plus a non-precipitating water conditioner, such as Calgon or Spring Rain*. Better results may be obtained by dissolving detergent and water conditioner in the wash before adding the clothes. Be certain that all clothes are down into the water before starting washer. • If the iron is suspended in the water (it will settle out), attach a rust filter to the faucet and inlet hoses or to the water line. • If iron or manganese stains are a recurring problem, the customer may need a special filter or chemical feeder installed in the home to remove these minerals from the water supply. To remove: Launder with RoVer* Rust Remover Part No. 057961 using the directions below: • Top loading washers: a. Fill the washer with water (no detergent), selecting a temperature suitable for the fabric (hot or warm). b. Add 1/3 cup RoVer and let it dissolve by agitation. c. Add clothes and allow washer to complete the cycle. d. Follow up with an additional wash with detergent.

Be sure to check the spin basket for rust spots also.

Worth fixing dryer that is getting oil spots on clothes model mah5500bwq

This machine has no oil in the tub assembly. Over a period of time and using cold water washes body oil, dirt and undissolved detergents and fabric softener will accumulate at the water line on the inner wall of the outer tub. After the gunk builds up thick enough parts of it will break loose at times when using hot water and then get on the clothes.

You will need to check in the first place the water inlet that connects the washer as if the pipes are rusted then it will be bringing to the washer some stains along with the rust . So allow the water to be collected and checked outside and then connected to the washer and checked.
next check on the sides of the tub /drum for any rusted parts or foreign objects that are lodged into the drum.
Finally make sure that the tub is clean, the vents and all the sections connected are brushed off with light vinegar and detergent.

hello. the hot water and bleach partially cleaned some of the builtup residue in your tub. If you can find a product called CLR [calcium, lime, rust] use a cup of that in your machine with a few old towels. Run your longest and hottest cycle. Repeat if necessary. Joe

WHY IS THERE RUST IN MY WASH MACHINE DRUM

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Take out the clothes immediately after the washer stops spinning. Also clean the tub with a rust remover. This issue occurs due to bad drum bearing and it may be grease rather than rust. Although the tub is metal with porcelain coating and it wears around the edge of the holes first, leaving metal without porcelain. On spinning the centrifugal force pushes the clothes against the basket and some water sneaks into the holes. Due to this you may see the rust on clothes. If still the issue persists, then the tub is required to be replaced to resolve the issue. Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance. Thanks Rylee

OIl stains on clothes with front loading LG washer

ftr loader washers do not have any oil, my guess would be you are using fabric softner . that can stain clothes. dilute with water, they are very concentraded. or your dispenser may not be working properly and not releasing softner at the proper time.i would run a clean cycle through it. meaning set on a hot wash- regular cycle no clothes and run wirth bleach in bleach disenser. do this every other month to keep washer clean hope this helps. make sure its not happening in the dryer , the dryer has frt and rear seals that go bad and start leaving marks on clothes and catching them in beteween the tub.

If it's gunk or build up the marks should wash away. In this case run a long cycle using "affresh" or "washer fresh" with an empty load and use the hottest water available to help rinse the gunk out.

If the marks do not wash away, it could be grease due to a bearing failure. Listen for loud growling or grinding either by spinning the drum by hand or putting it into a spin cycle. If this is the case, the rear tub assembly (contains bearing) will need to be replaced. Not much can be done about the ruined clothes :(

possible you have some red clothing in the gap between the tub and drum - there is nothing in the machine to cause red stains
to check, remove rear half of cabinet, remove heater (held by 1 10mm nut which just loosen and prize out heater) you can then see into the gap between tub and drum. shine in a torch and rotate drum by hand to see if you can spot anything. disconnect from mains first
