Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC
After I wrote that, my boyfriend pointed out to me that the fans are indeed running. I could not hear them running as it seems I had in the past so thought they may not be running.
In combination with this problem, we are experiencing an error message after our 50 min wait to get to desk top, that windows is shutting down to prevent damage to the computer. A process thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.
It advises to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed and if it is, to ask windows for any updates I may need.
This is why I updated to sp 3 from sp2...on getting this error message several times since downloading a World of Warcraft patch 3.0 on 10/14/08 in anticipation of their expansion game.
In addition, we began noticing after this patch that the system was running slowly and that my McAfee was now displaying an icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen that was freezing up the whole computer.
Never noticed this icon before which is a symbol that every 4 hours McAfee is checking for updates and downloading these updates. So was not sure if that was some type of software new to McAfee and that was the problem.
We thought maybe we were running a little short on memory so went out and purchased another gig of memory..same thing as i have but diff name brand..DDR2 pc2-5300 and 1 gig..same as I had in before it.
Problem seemed to get worse and still received error message.
Clock seems to stop working at times when computer is freezing up and then will jump to appropriate time which I believe is either the problem or adding to system slowage so that is why I asked about the battery...was not sure what the battery inside the unit was for, and know I had never replaced it in the past.
Sorry so long but was trying to keep a very long and complicated problem to a minimum just to see if someone may be familiar w/a common problem w/these emachines.
Thanks so much for your help thus far and if the info above provides you any new clues or insights I would love for you to share them with me.
Will try the CCcleaner (not that computer savvy so not sure if this is a website I go to but will Google it..and will try the winpatrol as well.
Thanks so much!
The one main cause of this type of problem is usually heat. You say that the fans are working, did you check to see if your power supply fan is working? Do you feel the temperature inside the PC to be warmed then luke warm?
Also, McAfee (what I use) updating is a normal thing. It will get to the point that it will update just twice a day.
Another thing that may be happening is that you hard drive is going bad. Feel around it and see if it is more then luke warm. If it is hot then we know that it is part of the problem.
Let me know.
