Mitsubishi VS-50707 shuts down sporadically

My 2000 Mitsubishi VS-50707 will turn itself off sporadically. Sometimes only once over a two week period, other times it will turn itself off 6-10 times in a day. It always takes at least 20-30 minutes to reset and turn back on. If you don't wait, it will just click and turn right back off. Is it time for a new tube or can this be fixed for a minimum charge. I would like to get more than seven years out of a $2200 T.V. Need help please!!!!! won t turn on

I agree with ginko!!! if you have a look on the forums this seems to be a common fault with these tv's check all the power relays and capacitors and clean the dust from it, when the TV is on and if the picture is crisp then i doubt its the lamps

good luck and kind regards

I dont think the problem is the tube.

It is probably a faulty power adapter, or a lamp problem.

If it turns off always after a while, let say after two or three hours, each time you turn it on, then it is overheating.

If instad, as you say, it is totally random and happens once every couple of days, then it is probably a faulty power board, or a different component that is starting to fail.

Only sporadically similar problem are caused by expensive parts like the ligh
engine, and even a digital board it is not too expensive to replace.

Depending on what part must be replaced , the repair job should range between $200 and $300.

you can do a self-diagnosis test by pressing the menu and input/device button on set for 5 sec and see what error code it gives you. Count the blinks followed by a short pause then more blinks. This is the error code.

what if the pic doesnt stay on long enough to run the test? Mine doesn't stay on more then 15 seconds before it powers off. This happens everytime now.

If the picture looks like a 3D then you have a convergence failure.
I would suggest to visually inspect the STK Ics for dry or crystallized solder joints.

Check the CRT socket of the tube that is arching. Could be a solder connection or shorted CRT. If you need further assistance let me know.

on the signal board replace the caps by the 5/9 volt regulators. c2p04 is the main culprit. 6 caps in total can be changed. I believe c2p05 also.
