A neighbor wants to output from his XP machine to a HDMI flat panel TV. It outputs fine thru VGA cables but doesn't show the second monitor when connected to HDMI. The HDMI cable he bought didn't have a DVI connection and an adapter was purchased but when connected, the HDMI screen isn't shown as a second monitor.

hi
check if you have the latest software or not if not download from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html this will give you a more simple and easier way change the double monitor settings
SOURCE: i have purchased a Asus en6200le card for dual monitors
Right-click the desktop, and then click Properties.
In the DisplayProperties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
Click the Display list and select your external monitor. If you do not see multiple monitors listed, your computer hardware may not support Dualview. You can still use MaxiVista to configure a second computer as an additional display, however.
Select the Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor option. Click Apply or OK

You might try going into the computer's BIOS / Setup and set the video settings there. I'm not familiar with Asus, but it should tell you upon boot-up which key to press to get into Setup. That's assuming this model can handle HDMI.

check you direct x by typing dxdaig in run run the test and se if it passes if not the card driver is not binding to the direct x 3 d games will not play maybe sound .
sounds like yo had the same Probles that I had with my 5200 geforce The install did not go well. what was happening was the direct x was binding to the old mother board graphics system and not the new card . to make it rebind just change the refresh rate in the nvidia icon in your task bar . disable the display adapter from device manager for the motherboard graphics .put the card in the slot change the montior cord boot up check you direct x by typing in run dxdiag and test directx to be sure it is runing with your card you can also see that fron the about nvidia you must have the driver for the card installed to do all this.. hope I helped

The VGA cable is strictly just for video so the sound is received thru an analogue (RCA) cable. HDMI is an combined digital link but the video card delivers only the video - you must tell the tv from where to get the sound (use the analogue connection already in place) This is done in the menu.
