HP smartweb printing software locksup the web site being captured

I installed HP Smart Web Printing software to captiure and later print things of interest on websites. This program seems to lock up the capture on some sites. (LIKE THIS ONE). Once locked, am unable to do anything further on the site.(control-alt-del does work)---is there a way to have this program work consistantly ? OR can you recommend a better program that is for sale, to accomplish this type of task ??

I see from the volume of information on this thread that you have tried quite a number of solutions already. Although id like to clarify if you have tried a different computer. I have the same program installed on one of my computers and am not having a problem. XP SP2 IE 7 so im thinking it has to do with the OS that you have installed being that there may be some probelms on them. Although by experience i have found out malware causes problems on HP software as is what happened on an All in one printer i had a couple of months back as well as a Lexmark printer i took care of on location a couple of days ago. Id suggest you either try another computer and see if you get the same problem or try malware software such as is on the link below then run a full scan. You can use the free option by the way even if you have antivirus it does not filter some malware and after a full scan do Delete any malware found and also uninstall and reinstall the program.

What ever program or web browser you're using, go to file and save page as PDFor DOC file. From the file name menu, name write the file name and full stop(.)PDF or DOC, then open file and you can print from the that. Cause some websites frames are created printerble and not printerble friendly.

Hello sir... May be any of the currently running programs are conflicting with the HP software.Have you tried using the software with "Safe mode with Networking" options? . In normal mode once try the software after  terminating all other process like players,Your antivirus and any other system tray applets. All other experts have already given all the possible solutions but you said they dont work.So the problem may not be with the Web browser or the software. May be it conflicts with something as soon as you use it.

Hi, Sometimes, some websites have frames. If so, sometimes the printer does not print the whole webpage.
In such cases, if you are using firefox, right click on the content you want to print, if their is a option like "open tht frame in new window/ tab" open it and then try printing.

I hope thats the problem.
If you can specify the specific website you are facing trouble, I can try to know whats really happening.

    Hi,
    I understood.
I actually installed and tried the HP Web Printing.

The problem is the software which does not certain elements of the webpage.

There are two options to overcome.

Do a screen capture and paste it in MS paint or any other software and print them.

    or else,
if you have Microsoft OneNote, it is very easy.
Just mark, copy and paste in onto the MS OneNote and print the page.

What I have found with HP Web Printing is nothing could be done with it to solve the problem.

MS OneNote should be very useful.

OK, the best option would be to switch over to FireFox browser, and install PageSaver, which is a FireFox add-on, for free.

With PageSaver, you can take screenshots by just pressing a button on your FireFoxtoolbar. It even gives you the option to either capture full length orscaled down images of the webpage, including capturing active Flash elements. You then open this jpg/png file with the default picture software (depends how you save it) and print away!

No more screen freezing issues!

Haven't seen an anti-copy program out there that would prevent a screen shot of a webpage from being taken. The problem seems to lie with the software itself, in that it cannot capture flash images, or other embedded objects on the page, and hence is freezing up..

  • Swilin Sampson
    Swilin Sampson Nov 17, 2008

Switch to FireFox, trust me, its way better than IE. The download and installation of both Firefox and PageSaver hardly takes a couple of minutes, and you still get to keep IE as well...

  • Swilin Sampson

Hmm..I just downloaded the Smart Web printing software v4.05 from the HP site.
Tried in on this same page viewed in IE7.0.5 and it worked without a fault. Therefore, I would suspect that your software may not have installed properly.

Try this; Uninstall the software through Control Panel, Reboot the PC, download the latest version again from the link I just provided. Next do a "clean install" as outlined in my article here:
    http://www.fixya.com/support/r545614-ins...
(Just ignore the word 'camera' and follow the procedure..the procedure is the same)..

Now close IE and reopen it. Hopefully, it should work OK now..

Hi

Issue probably will be resolved by installing the newest version which is available free of charge. v4.05 just released recently and it is alot more capable than before. You can get it at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL20395/dj-56929-3/HP_Smart_Web_Printing_v4.05.exe

Good Luck

Another way to print stuff from websites is to hold down on the control button while pressing down on the print screen button.

If you have Word, open up the application and select paste.

Your screen will appear in the document.

Check to see if you have enough system memory to run the programme properly, re-intall the software and if i were you try "google Chrome" this IE is very light and doesn't eat up your system memory as IE7/8 and firefox do, it should work well with the printer software

regards and good luck

Rather than printing & scanning to attach a document to an email, you can just do a screen print. To do this, pull up the portion of the page you need and hold down the "Alt" key AND hit the "Prt Scr" key. (It wont look like anything has happened). Now go into your email - Make sure your cursor is in the text area - right click your mouse & choose paste from the dropdown menu that will appear. If you need to capture a larger portion of the page; hold down the "Ctrl" key and tap the minus sign to get more content on the screen print. if you need larger print - hold down the "Ctrl" key and tap the plus sign. Whatever you see on the screen is what will be captured and pasted into your email. This includes all the tabs on the top with any websites you have open and the bottom tool bar where your icons, etc sit

P2P and You?

P2P means Peer to Peer that act of sharing files with another person or group. With Peer to Peer you can find lots of files, driver files etc. When using Peer to Peer programs you can go to various Web sites to get these shared files.

Peer to Peer has become forums which carries lots of illegal software and downloads that are sold in today's market place. A movie, Music, Windows Software along with other software which must be purchased and serial number applied is being stripped from these Peer to Peer sites. This is what is called illegal copywriter infringements, not only will possibly get a person jailed or fined you can lose your Internet ISP.

The world is an open source for file sharing such programs which offer illegal material which can be download or shared from Peer to Peer programs is slowly becoming the thing of the past. You will notice many warning messages which will eventually close most of the P2P programs down in the future. It is sad that again we are going to be controlled by the government with new rules and policies which will stop the illegal files from being shared.

I tell you this information to let the public know when reading this web information, to be careful and just download files that are freeware only from these sites like driver files and free software. If you use P2P software be sure to have anti-virus running at all times. These sites are loaded with virus files and will infect your computer.

11 tips for social networking safety

Social networking Web sites like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, and Windows Live Spaces are services people can use to connect with others to share information like photos, videos, and personal messages.
As the popularity of these social sites grows, so do the risks of using them. Hackers, spammers, virus writers, identity thieves, and other criminals follow the traffic.
Read these tips to help protect yourself when you use social networks.
  1. Use caution when you click links that you receive in messages from your friends on your social Web site. Treat links in messages on these sites as you would links in e-mail messages. (For more information, see Approach links in e-mail with caution.)
  2. Know what you've posted about yourself. A common way that hackers break into financial or other accounts is by clicking the "Forgot your password?" link on the account login page. To break into your account, they search for the answers to your security questions, such as your birthday, home town, high school class, father's middle name, on your social networking site. If the site allows, make up your own password questions, and don't draw them from material anyone could find with a quick search.
  3. Don't trust that a message is really from who it says it's from. Hackers can break into accounts and send messages that look like they're from your friends, but aren't. If you suspect that a message is fraudulent, use an alternate method to contact your friend to find out. This includes invitations to join new social networks.
  4. To avoid giving away e-mail addresses of your friends, do not allow social networking services to scan your e-mail address book. When you join a new social network, you might receive an offer to enter your e-mail address and password to find out if your contacts are on the network. The site might use this information to send e-mail messages to everyone in your contact list or even everyone you've ever sent an e-mail message to with that e-mail address. Social networking sites should explain that they're going to do this, but some do not.
  5. Type the address of your social networking site directly into your browser or use your personal bookmarks. If you click a link to your site through e-mail or another Web site, you might be entering your account name and password into a fake site where your personal information could be stolen.
  6. Be selective about who you accept as a friend on a social network. Identity thieves might create fake profiles in order to get information from you.
  7. Choose your social network carefully. Evaluate the site that you plan to use and make sure you understand the privacy policy. Find out if the site monitors content that people post. You will be providing personal information to this Web site, so use the same criteria that you would to select a site where you enter your credit card.
  8. Assume that everything you put on a social networking site is permanent. Even if you can delete your account, anyone on the Internet can easily print photos or text or save images and videos to a computer.
  9. Be careful about installing extras on your site. Many social networking sites allow you to download third-party applications that let you do more with your personal page. Criminals sometimes use these applications to steal your personal information. To download and use third-party applications safely, take the same safety precautions that you take with any other program or file you download from the Web. For more information, see Before you download files, help protect your computer.
  10. Think twice before you use social networking sites at work. For more information, see Be careful with social networking sites, especially at work.
  11. Talk to your kids about social networking. If you're a parent of children who use social networking sites, see How to help your kids use social Web sites more safely.

How do I clear cache using Netscape? Question : Answer : help_a.gif Cache files, or Temporary Internet Files in Microsoft Windows 95 or higher, are copies of files sent to your web browser and stored on your computer so that when you access a web site (such as PayPal) at a later date, it will load much faster. However, sometimes cache and temporary Internet files can cause problems in viewing your current information on the PayPal web site.

To set the size of the memory cache or clear it in Windows or Unix, follow these steps:

  1. From the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  2. Open the Advanced category on the left hand side of the screen and click on Cache. You should see an option to clear your disk and memory cache. It is recommended you clear both caches.
  3. Click Clear Memory Cache.

You may also need to locate the folder on your hard drive named Cookies or Magic Cookies and delete all the cookies that are stored there.
